COMPILED BY Jim Younger This document contains every annual index (41 total; two years had the same volume number) to the Katy Flyer Magazine. Nearly every item found in the Flyer is indexed. It is hoped that railfans, researchers and historians will find these indexes to be of use in obtaining information about all aspects of the Missouri-Kansas-Texas Railroad, affectionately known as The ‘Katy’. NOTE: This document is available only as a pdf download; the practice of producing cds has been discontinued. Also, the ‘major articles’ master index has been discontinued; It is redundant with the superior search capability of Adobe®. ‘Major’ articles may be identified in the annual indexes by their (usually mulitiple) page length. Using Adobe® Reader’s search features, any word or phrase in this document can be easily located. The ‘search’ feature (binoculars icon) is found on the toolbar above. Navigation is possible by using the bookmarks found to the left or by using the up/down arrows located on the right or by using the page arrows found at the bottom of the screen. The Flyer ‘s publication history can best be viewed in the following table: Vol 1 1978 Vol 11a 1989 Vol 22 2000 Vol 33 2011 Vol 2 1979 Vol 12 1990 Vol 23 2001 Vol 34 2012 Vol 3 1980 Vol 13 1991 Vol 24 2002 Vol 35 2013 Vol 4 1981 Vol 14 1992 Vol 25 2003 Vol 36 2014 Vol 5 1982 Vol 15 1993 Vol 26 2004 Vol 37 2015 Vol 6 1983 Vol 16 1994 Vol 27 2005 Vol 38 2016 Vol 7 1984 Vol 17 1995 Vol 28 2006 Vol 39 2017 Vol 8 1985 Vol 18 1996 Vol 29 2007 Vol 40 2018 Vol 9 1986 Vol 19 1997 Vol 30 2008 Vol 10 1987 Vol 20 1998 Vol 31 2009 Vol 11 1988 Vol 21 1999 Vol 32 2010 Visit Our Website, www.katyrailroad.org ~Enjoy exploring the days when The KATY ‘Served the Southwest Well’!~ This file is in pdf format and requires the free Adobe® Reader which can be found at www.adobe.com. The first FLYER appeared in early 1978. Indexed are the 4 issues of Volume I, (1978): January (#1), March (#2), July (#3) and September (#4). Pages were unnumbered; the format for all issues was 8½”x 14”. Matching issue dates and issue numbers is a bit of a task. #1 had neither an issue # (1) or date of publication (January, 1978); it contained 3 unnumbered pages. (Identification was verified by an untitled front page newspaper article reprint by Martin Thomas detailing the founding of the KRHS). #2 was marked V. 1, #2, but lacked a publication date (March, 1978); it contained 8 unnumbered pages. Issues #3 and #4 (July and September) had their respective dates but issue numbers were missing. July had 9 unnumbered pages and September had 5 unnumbered pages. A typical index listing (example) is: Cross, Howard, article by: Great Train Wreck, (re: witness to 1896 Crush TX train crash), ½ page, July 78 Listed is the author, title, issue date (by month and year only), and, if necessary, a brief description of the article’s topic (to include supplementary information, such as article length in paragraphs or pages). Featured articles (usually only one page or less in length) are listed twice, by title and by author. Shorter features (e.g., ‘Current News’) are only one or more paragraphs long. Photos in this volume are in black and white format only. Constructive comments and positive suggestions are welcome. Errors should be directed to the compiler.
