A catalogue of the current valid 111 species and 3 subspecies of Pyrrhalta of the world is presented. The compilation includes the complete taxonomic synonymy, geographical distribution and host plant record for each species. Key words: Coleoptera; Chrysomelidae; Galerucinae; Pyrrhalta; catalogue CLC number: Q969.512.4 Document code: A Article ID: 1000-7482(2010)S0-0119-18 The genus Pyrrhalta was erected by Joannis (1866), and treated as a subgenus of Galeruca. Weise (1924) elevated it to a genus level. It is one of the most species-rich genera of Galerucinae in the world. There are 111 species and 3 subspecies distributed in Palearctic Region, Oriental Region, Australian Region and Nearctic Region, among them, 57 species are recorded in China. Some of them are severe pests of landscape trees, for example, Pyrrhalta aenescens (Fairmaire) and Pyrrhalta maculicollis (Motschulsky) are the main pests of elm tree. In northern China, the two species mentiond above are distributed abroadly and are usually sympatric occurring. Larvae and adults feed on leaves, and can finish off all the leaves of the tree when they occur severely. Another species, Pyrrhalta humeralis (Chen), is the important pest of Viburnum spp. and Ligustrum calleryanum Decne., and caused heavy loss of landscape gardening in China. In present paper, a catalogue of the current valid 111 species and 3 subspecies of Pyrrhalta of the world is presented. The compilation includes the complete taxonomic synonymy, geographical distribution and host plant record for each species.
