The town’s application, which is led by the Business Improvement District (BID), focuses on the comprehensive regeneration work which is helping to transform the town centre. On judging day itself GBHS representatives visited the town centre to learn about the town centre. Jayne May, Project Executive from the BID was in town on judging day to explain more about the town’s application and is hopeful that Rochdale can pick up the prize. “It was great to be able to show representatives from GBHS around Rochdale and for them to gain a better understanding of the numerous projects, events and initiatives that are delivered in the town centre. “They were very impressed with how our businesses work together throughout the year to benefit the high street and how they are constantly thinking outside the box to bring extra visitors to Rochdale.“ Now all we can do is wait for the results which will be revealed at a ceremony in January. YOUR TOWN CENTRE NEWSLETTER Christmas 2019 Town Centre Rangers John Cooke and Lyndsey White have recently been appointed as Town Centre Rangers by the BID. The rangers have been patrolling town centre streets as part of the BID’s commitment to support businesses and provide a safer environment to live, work, study and visit. They are easily recognised by their blue uniforms which will display a “Rochdale BID Ranger” logo. The rangers will be part of the well-established radio link scheme which supports the Pubwatch and Shopwatch initiatives. Paul Ambrose, BID Manager, said: “The rangers will support the businesses with face to face contact, be the eyes and ears of the area and work closely with partner organisations. "They will be providing frontline customer service, handling situations as they arise and supporting the other frontline services, carrying out regular daily patrols to help act as a deterrent whilst becoming a welcoming and reassuring sight and presence for the public. "The rangers will take a friendly approach to deter antisocial behaviour, whilst also playing a supportive role to the many retailers and helping to keep our town safe.” This initiative supports the BID agenda to boost safety and security in the town centre and act as an additional platform in BID’s overall commitment to enhancing the atmosphere of the town as a welcoming, friendly and inviting place to live, work, study and visit. Looking forward to 2020 2020 promises to be a fantastic year for the town centre with the obvious highlights being Dippy arriving and Rochdale Riverside opening in April. Rochdale Riverside will have a mix of retail and leisure facilities that include Hollywood Bowl’s Puttstars indoor golf facility and Reel Cinema. There will be over 500 car parking spaces at the site and it is located next to the transport interchange and town centre Metrolink stop. From February the world's most famous diplodocus will be storming Rochdale’s Number One Riverside for a four-month stay. Not only will Dippy himself be on display in a move that will attract 300,000 people by the time he leaves at the end of June, but a separate exhibition at the Touchstones gallery will let dino-lovers of all ages immerse themselves in his history. The BID is working with partners to ensure that the town centre as a whole benefits from these exciting high-profile events Throughout 2020, the BID will implement projects and initiatives which will support businesses and complement the programme of investment BID enquiries in the town centre that partner organisations are delivering.
