D.P.R. of The IWMP-I (2009-10) Block-Bidhuna, Distt.-Auraiya Department of Land Development and Water Resources, Uttar Pradesh Bhoomi Sanrakshan Adhikari, L.D.W.R., Auraiya at Ajeetmal Kanpur Division Kanpur 1 CERTIFICATE This is certified that the proposed Project (IWMP-I) having Eleven Micro-Watersheds of Block-Bidhuna, District Auraiya, (U.P.) has been selected for its sustainable development of manageemnt of natural resources on watershed basis under Integrated Watershed Management Programme. The treatable rainfed area is physically available for proposed interventions and is not overlapping with any other schemes. It will be developed and managed by as per Common Guidelines for Watershed Development Project-2008, GOI, New Delhi. The significant results will be achieved through proposed interventions on soil and water conservation, ground water recharge, availability of drinking and irrigation water, agricultural production systems, live stock, fodder availability, livelihoods of asset less peoples, capacity building, etc. The proposed Detailed Project Report of IWMP-I, 2009-10 is submitted for its approval. Soil Conservation Officer Deputy Director Land Development and Water Resource Land Development and Water Resource Auraiya at Ajeetmal (U.P.) Kanpur Division, Kanpur (U.P.) Project Director Chief Development Officer DRDA, Auraiya (U.P.) Distt.-Auraiya (U.P.) 2 EXECUTIVE SUMMARY All the micro-watersheds of IWMP-I, 2009-10 are situated in Bidhuna Block of District Auraiya, Uttar Pradesh. The project consists of eleven micro-watersheds namely Sabhad (2C4B5a4d), Mau (2C4B5a4c), Marha Macchi Jhil (2C4B5a4b), Belpur Bela (2C4B5a4a), Banthara (2C4B5a2d), Dondapur (2C4B5a2c), Babina Sukhchenpur (2C4B5a1d), Bhadasiya (2C4B5a1c), Indpamau (2C4B5a1b), Asjana (2C4B5a1c (L)) and Sarai Pratham (2C4C2c1d (L)) . All these microwatersheds spread over in 45 villages of 31 Gram Panchayat. The total geographical area of the IWMP-I is 8269.851 ha, out of which 6177.00 ha is treatable under Integrated Watershed Management Programme IWMP-I. All micro-watershed falls in agro-climatic zone of Central Plain Zone representing semi-arid ecological sub-region. The microwatersheds of IWMP-I is situated at an elevation of some 135m to 152m above mean sea level and has relief from 11m. to 16m. The watershed has a general slope is about 1.00 per cent. General topography of the watershed is mild to gentle. Elevation range and relief are given in Table 2.3. Spatial distribution of different slope classes was prepared using Arc GIS. Slope was divided into five classes’ viz. 0-0.5, 0.5- 1.0, 1-3, 3-5, and more than 5 per cent. Per cent areal extent of different slope classes in IWMP-I micro-watershed is shown in Table 2.4. The dominant slope category in the micro-watershed were 1-3 per cent (39%) followed by 3-5 per cent (28%). on an average 17 per cent of the population is scheduled caste. Population details of the IWMP-I are depited in Table 3.1. In general 7 per cent opulation migrate from the project area due to drought and earn more money, however, migration was more than 50 per cent during 2007-08 due to continuous drought from 2004 to 2007 in the region. Major crops of the watershed are Urd, Moong, Sorghum, Paddy and Arhar during kharif and Pea, wheat, Barley, Massor and mustard during rabi. The productivity of these crops is significantly lower than the national and state average. The cropping intensity during kharif is significantly lower than the rabi . The pre-dominant tree species are Neem (Azadirachta indica), Babool (Acacia nilotica) , Palas and Ber ( Zizyphus spp.) etc . 3 Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) exercise was conducted to understand the people’s needs and problems. The exercise brought out pressing needs and preferences of people for water harvesting structures through pucca checkdams on ephemeral streams, earthen bunding to protect soil erosion from agricultural fields along with field drainage structure, crop varieties with improved package of practices, agroforestry interventions and improved cultivation of fodder production, etc. The Watershed Committee (WC) and SHGs have been constituted according to IWMP Guideline-2008. Active participation and co-operation of community will be ensured by building their capacities through exposures and trainings. The overall BC ratio of the project is estimated to be more than 2.00 as compared to the 1.55 in pre project scenario . 4 CONTENTS No. Particulars Page Nos. 1.
