THE ULTIMATE BOWLING CAMP HAS FINALLY ARRIVED Imagine if Bowling made a camp with the revered education and culture of Harvard paired up with the ultra-driven and totally focused Marine Corp Basic Training principals (it’s here…..and Girlie men and sissies need not apply) A real life story to set the stage…. Growing up, there were two young boys who loved bowling. One excelled in youth leagues and had all the promise in the world – he was going to be a big shot some day. The other sort of did his own thing and didn’t listen to coaches that much, but, found ways to get by with only momentary flashes of brilliance. One boy was just naturally talented and could seemingly knock pins down with little effort. The other boy was just jealous on how easy the pins seemed to fall for his young friend. So he dedicated his summer to learning how to hook the bowling ball and by the end of the summer…..boy did it hook. At his first night of adult league, the less talented boy was now curving the lane with his sweeping hook. The first thing some of the old timers said to him during the practice session was “boy, you crank the ball too much. You’re never going to go anywhere with that hook.” He was devastated. He worked so hard throughout the summer to strike more often that this was a crushing blow. His first game of adult league……130. His above average friend was still plugging along making bowling look easy. At the same time he was at a crossroads of knowing what he wanted to do and what he was told he should do. Maybe he should just quit. Fast forward a year later and through chance, choices or good fortune, the less skilled player got asked to bowl in an adult tournament. Little did he know he was being set up for disaster. He started slow, but made a big run and somehow made the finals – along with the guys who recruited him. Incidentally, his more talented friend wasn’t at the event. Hmmm. With luck on his side the young unskilled player broke up every split imaginable, got light strikes, got nose-dive strikes, and at the end of the semi finals, snuck his way into the 4 th spot. His first match? One of the recruiters… His good fortune continued as he actually beat one of the “bowling bullies” and then had to face another foe…..the other recruiter! With horseshoe firmly deposited you-know-where, he made it past the other recruiter and would up in the finals. In the final match his magical run would end, but it was an unforgettable bowling experience….one he still talks about today almost 20 years later. But that tournament changed the fortune of the less talented youth bowler. See, though the years the less talented bowler always remembered what the old-timers told him on that first night and he never forgot how much it hurt. So he sought knowledge from wherever he could get it and from whomever he could get it from. He practiced the right things to do in bowling and every little bit of information helped him make better decisions over the next decade or two. To be sure, he made mistakes; MANY mistakes – some costing hundreds of dollars each, but each teaching a valuable lesson. And yet his more talented friend, never seemed to get any better. In fact, it almost seemed as though he got worse despite having the skills to succeed. Or so the young one thought… Over the years one encounter lead to another tournament. Those tournaments lead to another networking contacts. Those lead to an irresistible offer to join a top-tier team to bowl in National events. Those national events lead to more opportunities and more networking and finally some of the biggest perks available in amateur bowling. One bowled a little here and there, got some information off the Internet and searched for answers while his performance stalled. The other who sought out real, actionable information, put it into practice, made better decisions, found out what worked best and created enviable success. More $$$ Made More Opportunities More Championships The moral of the story is that with just a hint of talent, a little good information, testing through application and a burning desire to NOT be okay with the status quo , anyone can pull off the miracle story I just told. Anyone! How does that story relate to ME ?? Because I realize how hard it is to soak up all of the information that is available (especially on the Internet) and because every Tom, Dick and Harry in league has advice (which is usually bad advice focused on the symptom not the problem), it’s too hard, and takes too long to build the dream. Bowling needs a sort of Boot Camp where in just a short period of time boys are turned into men with knowledge and discipline for the future. Bowling needs a sort of school where minds can be shaped by empirical fact, data and video proof not Internet message board opinion, rhetoric and toxicity. Bowling needs both of those concepts into a sort-of bowling university where years and years of experience, data, testing and results are combined into a curriculum. Introducing………… Storm Hold on to your hats, here is our overloaded schedule! Day 1 7:30am – 8:00am Arrival at the Center Check in with our warm and friendly staff 8:00am – 8:30am Warm up and video capture of each student Our coaching staff will capture videos of you in your “before” state so that we may use it as a tool to help build your plan of success going forward later in the day 8:30am – 9:30am Bowling Terms – Classroom Here we will dispel the myths and set the record straight that can cause confusion and poor decision making that holds scores back from being higher. We will go over cover stocks, RG vs. Differential, Symmetrical vs. Asymmetrical, surface roughness, etc. 9:30am – 9:40am 10 minute Break 9:40am – 10:40am Physical Game – Classroom Here we are trying to ensure we teach you “why” the things happen to you the way they do on the lanes so you can correct them immediately and improve your potential. We discuss the role of your fit (grip), posture, timing, release, swing plane and how to harness it ALL for maximum performance. We will use lots of video to demonstrate not only proper technique but the positive outcomes from getting it right 10:40am – Noon Physical Game – On Lanes Then we take all that we learned in the Physical Game – Classroom section and merge it with the video’s we captured at 8am and you will go out and work on-lanes with your coaches on how they are going to help build you a growth plan. Before you get home, you will have your very own customized lesson plan waiting for you in your email inbox. Noon – 12:30pm Lunch Since you’re in Sheboygan, you’re getting treated to a good old fashioned Sheboygan Brat fry with brats, burgers, potato salad, baked beans and chips. 12:30pm – 1:00pm Spare Shooting – Classroom This is the most valuable part of the program if you are open-minded to the possibilities. Here we will learn the oh-so-simple ways to increase your average 11, 22 or 33 pins per game INSTANTLY and give you a system to make it fool-proof and guaranteed to make your scores go higher. 1:00pm – 1:50pm Spare Shooting – On Lanes Those skills we just learned in the classroom will be applied on the lanes. Our coaches will use the system we teach you in class and work through the application on the lanes. In our experience, knowing this system and seeing how easily it works may be the single biggest eye-opening thing you will learn. And you will be MAD at yourself that you’ve done it a different way all these years. 1:50pm – 2:00pm 10 minute Break 2:00pm – 3:30pm Lane Play Basics – Classroom But this is far from basic training. Making the invisible lane patterns visible in your mind and easy to understand, attack and exploit to your advantage. In addition, we will demystify adjustments; or making moves on the lanes. When, Where, Why, and How Much. 3:30pm – 5:00pm Lane Play Basics – On Lanes Back to the lanes to work with your coaches for a full 90 minutes on lane play on various length patterns so you can see how simple this can be. Once you take what you’ve learned in this class with your existing skill set and new lesson plan for success we feel confident you are going to knock more pins down almost overnight. 5:00pm – 6:00pm Open Forum This is what in my 1 st graders class they call “Choice Time”. This is casual time where you get to continue honing your skills or consult with other coaches about their thoughts on any burning questions you might have. Chris Sand will also have over 60 balls here in his MatchMaker program set where you can test drive current line bowling balls to see if they might fit your needs either now or in the future. This time can also serve as a make-up buffer in case we accidentally get off schedule 6:00pm – 7:30pm Rest and clean-up for dinner 7:30pm – 9:00pm Dinner at Brisco County Wood Grill We have reservations on the riverfront at a great casual restaurant in the area; Brisco County Wood Grill.
