As the economy unlocks and public transport capacity is reduced there is a risk of more private car that will negate these benefits. The Council proposes to create low traffic neighbourhoods in areas where there have been historically high levels of through traffic making short cuts through residential estates to ensure neighbourhoods remain attractive for cycling and walking. Measures will introduce modal filters that will close roads to vehicles but permit cycles to pass on an experimental basis. Some of these measures could remain permanently if successful. Ref.
