February 2017 Alberto Longo Alberto Longo estate In the heart of Northern Apulia, in Lucera, an area rich in historical and environmental value, the Winery of Alberto Longo has its roots in an extraordinary anthropological and cultural context. Since 1968 the founders, Adele and Giovanni Longo eventually accompanied by their son Alberto, share a passion for producing quality wines valorizing the nearly forgotten appellation Cacc'e Mmitte di Lucera. This appellation, among Alberto Longo and his parents Adele the first DOCs in Puglia to be established and recognized in and Giovanni 1976, has as its main grape variety, Nero di Troia. Apulia and Italy map Today, with their 35 hectares of vineyard, the new winery situated in the old farmhouse Fattoria Cavalli (dated 1800), the Longo family has been able to integrate the latest winemaking technologies with traditional vineyard management and grape processing. All this to express at Oaks surrounding the vineyards its best the uniqueness of the northern Apulia. The territory The Winery is located in the North of Puglia, named Daunia, an area inhabited since Paleolithic times. This area became witness to the development of the Dauanian civilization ( a population from the Agean ) between the 10’th and 130th centuries BC. Daunia became a Roman province in the 3rd century BC and Lucera its main town, illustrated by the splendor of the Roman ruins still present in the area. The arrival of the Swabians in the 12th century AD and their most important Emperor, Frederick II, whose love for this land rich in oaks, wild boar and fox made Daunia an ideal environment for hunting and therefore a privileged residence of the court during that period. The location and landscape make for a well-ventilated area with great day-night temperature excursion.
