This needs to be addressd by MS. I am running windows 10 pro and the update assistant seems to say everything is ok. I have even run the update repair tool (several times) and no go. I am trying to upgarde from version 15063 to 16299 and after the load and verification, the actual install sticks at 45% and eventually drops out with the message that 'windows could not configure one or meore devices. to install windows, restart etc. And, after all of this, once the prior version is reinstalled, the upgrade process reinitiates and it happens all over again. I finally got some advice as to how to turn this off. This is an ugly solution in that new security patches will be stopped. I am hoping that my Norton Security Suite will suffice, and that someone at Microsoft will address this without too much technical mumbo-jumbo. MS really needs to troubleshoot it's upgrade process to inform users what bump in the road an upgrade may have hit (NOT the system logs please) and make sure that in 99.999% of the attempts, problems can be corrected during the upgrade process!! Set your Windows 10 Internet connection as metered. There is no outright way to stop updates in Windows 10, but the OS does understand that certain Internet connections charge by the amount of data consumed – such as in-flight or hotel Wi-Fi – or have a data cap – such as your mobile hotspot. Hence, Windows 10 has an in-built option to set these connections as ‘metered’, which will reduce the overall data usage, including no automatic downloads for OS updates. Here’s how to signify a connection as metered and stop automatic download of Windows 10 updates: I have Windows 10 OS Version 1709, Build 16299.125. Hi Larry, version 1809 has been released, you should go straight to that version to bring your system up to date and make all previous updates obsolete . With these major upgrades, the most successful method is to upgrade from the Windows 10 ISO - you download the ISO and then perform an Offline Upgrade. Click this link: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-downlo. to download the Media Creation Tool (Click on Download Tool Now), with that you can download the latest Windows 10 ISO (Select Create Installation Media for Another PC), then choose ISO.
