JACKSONVILLE JUMBO SHRIMP GAME NOTES Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp (12-16) at Biloxi Shuckers (19-10) Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp – Double-A Affiliate of the Miami Marlins Proud Member of the Southern LeaGue of Professional Baseball Southern LeaGue Champions 1996, 2001, 2005, 2009, 2010, 2014 Sunday May 6, 2018 – 3:05 p.m. ET / 2:05 p.m. CT MGM Park – Biloxi, Mississippi Shrimp: RHP Max Duval (1-2, 6.30) vs. Shuckers: LHP Kodi Medeiros (2-1, 2.63 ERA) Game #29 – Road Game #19 (5-14) Last Game: The Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp (12-16) fell to the Biloxi Shuckers (19-10) by a 1-0 score in the fourth game of the five-game series at MGM Park on Saturday night. Jacksonville right-handed starting pitcher Cody Poteet (2-2) took the loss, allowing a run on four hits with four walks and six strikeouts. Biloxi right-handed relief pitcher Wuilder Rodriguez (1-1) earned the win, tossing two scoreless innings with a walk and a strikeout. Biloxi left-handed relief pitcher Quintin Torres-Costa earned his second save of the season by working the final inning and a third in scoreless fashion to complete the shutout. Biloxi’s lone run came in the bottom of the third with an RBI double by Corey Ray to take a 1-0 lead, which would be the final score. Biloxi right-handed starting pitcher Adrian Houser had a no decision, working the first four innings in scoreless fashion with two hits allowed and six strikeouts. Milwaukee Brewers pitchers Boone Logan and Corey Knebel both combined to work a scoreless inning and two-thirds in their major league rehab appearances with the Shuckers. The game marked the third time the season the Jumbo Shrimp were shut out in a game, with all shutout losses being 1-0 scores. In that stretch, Jacksonville is 6-6 in those games. Additionally, of the last 12 games, 9 of those have been one-run ballgames, with the Shrimp going 4-5 during those one run ballgames. The last game that Jacksonville won by more than two runs was April 22 at Tennessee, winning 11-5, and the last game that Jacksonville lost by more than two runs was at Chattanooga on April 18, falling in Game One of a doubleheader 12-4. DUUUVAL Starts for Shrimp: Today is DUUVAL Day, as Jumbo Shrimp fan favorite Max Duval starts the final game of the series in Biloxi. Duval earned his first Double-A victory in his “Duval County” debut on Monday April 30 against the Pensacola Blue Wahoos at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville. Duval turned in five innings where he allowed two runs (one earned) on three hits with three walks and six strikeouts as Jacksonville won the final game of the series 5-3. Overall, Duval is 1-2 with a 6.30 ERA in his five starts for Jacksonville. Goodbye for Now, Shuckers: Today’s game wraps up the first of four series this season between Jacksonville and Biloxi. The next two meetings will be in Jacksonville from June 8-12 and in the second half from July 12-16. The Jumbo Shrimp will not make a return trip to Biloxi until August 6-12. Last season the Jumbo Shrimp and Shuckers played five series, with Jacksonville going 9-15 in those games. That included a 6-9 record in Biloxi, and the Shrimp were 3-6 against the Shuckers in Jacksonville. The Jumbo Shrimp did win their last series here in late August, including a key doubleheader sweep on August 30 that shrunk Jacksonville’s magic number to clinch the second half South Division title from five to one, and the Shrimp clinched a playoff berth the next day with a win at home against the Blue Wahoos. Shrimp Have Prospects: On the roster, the Jumbo Shrimp have five players who were listed by MLB.com as Top 30 Miami Marlins prospects for the 2018 season: OF Monte Harrison (1), Isan Diaz (7), RHP Nick Neidert (8), RHP Pablo Lopez (21), and John Norwood (30). Four of these five prospects were acquired by the Marlins in trades within the past 12 months. Today Neidert starts for the Jumbo Shrimp against the Shuckers in Biloxi, and he carries a 2-1 record with a 4.12 ERA into his fifth start of the season.
