This involved informative workshops led by the Fire Service, Northern Powergrid, Police, Durham County Council and the RNLI. During this term all children have been busy producing brilliant homework for our Life on Earth topic and we are very impressed with the models, creations and facts which the children have created and researched. All classes have created a fantastic display in our school hall which parents and carers have enjoyed looking at. To link with this topic all of Key Stage 2 children have also visited Middleton Mart to explore the world of farming and enjoyed lots of farming related activities. Finally as our spring term ends we say goodbye to Mrs Atkinson who is taking up an exciting new post as an outdoor education specialist. Happy Easter to everyone. On May 1st, the 10.30 am service at Barnard Castle will have a Christian Aid theme. 7 8 WOMEN’S WORLD DAY OF PRAYER 2016 Churches Together in Barnard Castle & Startforth Friday 4th March 2016 St. Mary’s Parish Church, Barnard Castle hosted the 2016 Women’s World Day of Prayer service which was planned by the Christian women of Cuba. A “Welcome Café” before the service offered coffee, tea, lemonade and home-made Cuban cookies. The church was hung with Cuban flags and resounded to lively Cuban music and modern hymns very appropriate to the theme. An eight-minute meditation period was backed by images of Cuba and quiet music. A dramatized reading describing the lives and challenges of the people of Cuba was presented by members of the congregation including three girls from Barnard Castle School who were accompanied by the School Chaplain, Revd. Darren Moore. Joan Johnson was the organist and the service was led by Iris Hillery. Over 50 women and men attended the morning service with a further service being held in the afternoon at St. Cuthbert’s, Cotherstone. The theme of the service “Receive children, Receive me” focused on the call for us to accept every human being as unique and equally worthy to God – young and old, rich and poor, just and unjust – whoever they are. Mariposa ‘prayer flowers’ were given to everyone in the congregation who could write on each tag the name of someone they would like to pray for.
