The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Michigan Chapter 43rd EMMY ® AWARDS June 19, 2021 WELCOME TO THE 43RD ANNUAL REGIONAL EMMY® AWARDS Presented by The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Michigan Chapter President's Welcome In the past year, news teams covered some of the most historic stories we will see in our lifetime; A global pandemic resulting in a loss of nearly 600,000 people in this country and divisive debates about mask wearing and vaccines. We saw race riots, protests and demonstrations; and covered an election that has polarized this country, ending in an insurrection at the US Capitol. You had to cover these stories while trying to stay safe and healthy, along with increasing anger and distrust of the media. It hasn’t been easy. YET, viewers tuned in…sometimes in record numbers, because you provided the information they needed to be informed. You told the stories that mattered and touched lives. You helped us navigate where to get tested or how to sign up for the vaccine. You provided non-stop updates on the presidential election with truth and facts, during some very tenuous days. It was challenging for production and sports too as crews were out of work for a while. However, as sports came back, it created a whirlwind of logistics to cover all the games, ensuring that fans could experience their favorite sport from home. And for those that produce entertainment, you gave us original content to help us escape from reality for a little bit. You didn’t give up. You understood your calling as an industry professional. You proved that, through adversity, you not only produced content that was important to the commu- nity, but you produced award-worthy programs. And that is what this Emmy Awards is all about. While it’s more fun to celebrate in-per- son, it does not diminish the honor. Winning or being nominated for an Emmy® Award is a humbling experience. I want to congratulate all of those on that list this year. Perhaps this year, more than others, it will have a deeper meaning after a year we won’t soon forget. So today, let’s take some time to celebrate excellence. And now, as my presidential term is coming to an end after 4 years, I want to thank you for the opportunity to serve this great organization. It has been an honor and privilege to represent the Michigan Emmy Chapter. Bob Gould President, Michigan Emmy®Chapter Vice President of Awards Good Evening and welcome! On behalf of the Board of Governors and the Emmy® Committee, we would like to welcome you to the 43rd Michigan Regional Emmy® Awards. Tonight we are celebrating excellence in television. Of course, this is not how we hoped to celebrate and honor all of you, but our priority is recognizing a great year of creative content in Michigan television and keeping everyone safe. This year we received 593submissions, 537nominees in 87 categories and our entries were judged by Nashville/Mid-South, Mid-America, Northwest, Southeast and Suncoast chapters. I would like to thank the Emmy® Committee for all of their assistance in making this night a memorable one. Congratulations to all the nominees and recipients! So proud to be a part of this incredible community. Robin A. Tracey Alan C. Young & Associates, P.C. From his childhood home in New Jersey, he was on the front lines for plenty of significant weather events. Storms like the Blizzard of 1996, Tropical Storm Floyd, and the Presi- dent's Day Blizzard of 2003 fueled Bachman's passion for weather more over the years. He was asked to stay and transitioned to weekend morning an- chor for WNEM-TV5 until the summer of 2007.
