Lauren B. Eisenberg Davis, one of the primary founders of our group, Special Merest Group and the person who so ably was in charge of research projects at the SIG, had to step down from her responsibilities because of a serious journal illness in her family and other personal matters. ISSN No. 1092-800 6 I remember that first meeting in Boston during the closing Friday ©1999, all material this issue morning hours of the Summer Seminar. Sh e had called a "birds of a feather" meeting for all those genealogists interested in forming a published quarterly by the special interest group focusing on the Kielce and Radom gubernias of KIELCE-RADOM Poland. Wit h a fatigued Warren Blatt by her side (he was just Special Interest Group (SIG) completing a grueling few months chairing one of the most successfu l national Jewish genealogy seminars ever held), Lauren combed the a non-profit, informal world-wide dozen or so attendees for their degree of interest. I entered the body of individuals interested in Jewish picture only when it seemed her efforts to get the SIG going would genealogical research from Kielc e and fail because no one had volunteered to coordinate her efforts . Radom, two gubernias in the Kingdom of Poland as defined by the boundaries From my viewpoint it was Lauren and Warren who have been as they existed from 1867-1917 . the kingpins of our organization. The y had a hand in all but a few of the items that appeared in those early issues of our Journal. Th e page after page of extractions came from their research, Sid Orfti8, Production Manager or their pointing the way for others. Th e Sandomierz archives i s one of the four branche s archives of the Polish State Archives i n Kielce alon g with th e archives i n Jedrzejôw, Piriczôw , and Starachowice. Th e Sandomierz archives i s the one branch of the Kielce archives not contained withi n the Kielce Archives' 199 3 catalog (se e Kielce-Radom SIG Journal 1:2 , pages 3-7); the y las t published a n inventor y i n 1979 . Housed i n the former synagogue , th e State Archives branch i n Sandomierz (Archiwu m Paristwowe Oddzial w Sandomierzu) i s located at #4 ulica Zydowska, 27-60 0 Sandomierz , Poland. Telephon e 832-25-09 . Amon g it s holdings are Jewish vita l record s fo r severa l town s formerly i n southern Rado m and western Lubli n gubernias. The LDS have microfilmed mos t of these records, through th e mid-1880s (see Kielce- Radom SIG Journal, 1:1, pages 6-7). T o obtain copies of the later records (mid-1880 s to late 1890s), yo u can write to the main archives i n Warsaw, wh o will forwar d you r request to the branch archives i n Sandomierz (se e "Vita l Record s i n Poland - A Primer" i n Kielce-Radom SIG Journal 1:2 , pages 3-7) . This inventor y ca n be compared wit h tha t i n Miriam Weiner's Jewish Roots in Poland: Pages from the Past and Archival Inventories (se e Kielce-Radom SIG Journal 11:2 , pages 21-24), pages 354-355. Miria m Weiner's inventor y also includes non-vita l records , whic h thi s inventory does not. However , th e inventory below contains a few mor e details on gaps i n the records, extends a few additiona l year s int o the 1890s , and contains informatio n abou t "marriage supplement" records . In addition to birth, marriag e and death registrations, th e Sandomierz archives also has "marriage supplements" fo r a few towns . Thes e are indicate d i n the inventory below with an "S". Thes e "marriag e supplements" or "marriag e proofs", know n as "dowody " o r "alegata " or "aneksy " o r "dokument y do akt malzenstw" i n Polish (ther e appears t o be no standard name), are documents whic h support various fact s i n the marriage registration, suc h as the birth informatio n fo r th e bride or groom fro m anothe r town, o r th e death or divorce of a former spouse .
