I hope that each of you feels welcome in this place, since it is a campus that belongs to all of us. Joined by your friends and classmates, this weekend is a time for celebrating, reconnecting, and affirming that you indeed made a great decision years ago to attend Gustavus. You can be proud of the legacy you have left for the current and future students, including 521 Gusties who celebrated their graduation just a few days ago. You can also be proud of the changes afoot, both in terms of the structure for reunions and in terms of the College’s Gustavus Acts Strategic Plan. The strategic plan represents a commitment to honor the legacy you have helped build here and ensure its endurance for generations to come. We are excited about the progress we have already made in implementing various strategies associated with the plan. In fact, this reunion structure is fully aligned with that plan, breathing life into our commitment to providing meaningful opportunities for alumni to engage with one another and with the College. To that end, I hope you will take full advantage of all there is to offer this weekend, from quiet time in the arboretum to learning opportunities at Alumni College and everything in between. This place belongs to all of us and holds a special place in each of our hearts—let’s celebrate that sentiment this weekend and let our spirit shine! Go Gusties! It was where we grew into adulthood, it was where we made decisions about our futures, and it was where we made many of our lasting friendships. As you will see, this new reunion model will allow you to spend plenty of time with classmates, and when you choose to participate in any of the many activities offered throughout the weekend, it will also provide the opportunity to engage with Gusties from other classes.
