From the outside barrier was then shifted behind runners in the early stages. For a short distance near the 300m was held up on the heels of Readily Availabull. Wizard Of Oz – knuckled on jumping. Converge – began awkwardly. Forgot You – began awkwardly and lost ground. From a wide barrier was then shifted behind runners in the early stages. In the straight laid in and proved difficult to ride out. Ready Availabull – slow to begin. Saif – began only fairly. Coastwatch – began only fairly. Raced keenly in the middle stages. Mr Mozart – approaching the 300m became momentarily unbalanced when bumped by Testimonial, which shifted out to improve. Again near the 200m, Testimonial and Mr Mozart made contact on a number of occasions as Testimonial continued to shift out slightly. When questioned regarding the tactics adopted, rider K McEvoy stated that after obtaining a position with cover in the early stages behind Tea Leaves, nearing the 900m when the pace of the race steadied, his mount commenced to race keenly and for this reason he elected to allow it to stride forward and to improve around Tea Leaves whereby he obliged to race in a four wide position without cover from that point. Tea Leaves – raced wide and without cover until approaching the 700m. Conrad – when questioned regarding the performance, rider T Marquand stated that he elected to take up a forward position in accordance with his instructions. He stated that when With Your Blessing continued to race keenly to his inside, he was not able to cross that runner as his mount was not travelling well enough to do so. He added that as a result, Conrad was obliged to race wide and without cover outside the leader and this resulted in the gelding not being able to finish the race off as expected. A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be slow to recover. With Your Blessing – overraced outside the leader in the early and middle stages. Testimonial – was held up for clear running between the 400m and the 300m and when shifting to the outside of Conrad near the 300m blundered. Flying Witness – shortly after the start blundered when it struck the heels of Converge due to Converge shifting out slightly and Coastwatch being taken in by Wizard Of Oz (H Bowman). H Bowman was advised to exercise more care. The Stewards determined that the incident was due to a contribution of Converge shifting out firstly and then being corrected by its rider and the shift in from Wizard Of Oz. Making the home turn was held up momentarily when racing tight between Readily Availabull and Wizard Of Oz. Wizard Of Oz – near the 700m was bumped by Tea Leaves, which shifted in. RACE 2 – XXXX Neville Sellwood Stakes (Group 3)2000m Avion Fury – slow to begin. Looks Like Elvis – began awkwardly, shifted out and made contact with Entente. Raced keenly in the middle stages. Entente – began awkwardly and was bumped by Looks Like Elvis. When questioned regarding the gelding taking cover behind the leader, T Clark stated that he had anticipated the gelding would lead today but after commencing awkwardly, his mount took some time to show its usual early pace. He stated that after Shared Ambition improved to his outside in the early stages and was inclined to race keenly, he believed his best option was to allow Shared Ambition to cross his mount and take cover which would allow him to follow another fancied runner into the event. Paths Of Glory – began only fairly and from a wide barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages. Mr Satchmo – raced keenly throughout the early and middle stages. Shared Ambition – when questioned regarding the gelding leading today, J McDonald confirmed his instructions were to ride the gelding with cover. He stated that after commencing well, his mount worked forward without being pressured and he initially endeavoured to obtain a position to the outside of the expected leader Entente. He stated that when Entente did not show intent to lead and Shared Ambition commenced to race keenly, he was obliged to then stride forward and lead the event. RACE 3 – Signace Tulloch Stakes (Group 2) 2000m Rondino – made contact with the rail upon entering the track. Rondino was examined behind the barriers by the Club’s veterinarian and deemed suitable to race. Began awkwardly and shortly afterwards was crowded between Just A Jedi and Fields Of Honour, which shifted out. Overraced throughout the early and middle stages. When commencing a forward move from the 700m, was hampered at the 650m when Young Werther shifted out to improve, resulting in both runners making contact for a number of strides. Zakspeed – shifted out on jumping and bumped Young Werther. Young Werther – was bumped on jumping by Zakspeed, which shifted out. Just A Jedi – slow to begin. Over the final 50m, could not be fully tested when positioned on the heels of Young Werther. Cherry Tortoni – slow to begin and from a wide barrier was then shifted behind runners in the early stages. The Frontman – when questioned regarding the performance, rider H Bowman stated that the colt raced too keenly in the early and middle stages of the event. He stated that after becoming awkward on the heels of Fields Of Honour inside the 200m, his mount secured clear running at the point, but was unable to finish the race off. He attributed the manner in which the colt raced throughout the early and middle stages as to why it was not able to finish the race off. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. The Stewards will follow up on the post race condition of the colt in the days subsequent. Favreau – when questioned regarding the gelding racing in a more forward position, rider J McDonald stated that his intention was to be midfield, but from a wide barrier, when an opportunity arose to obtain a more forward position closer to the rail, he allowed Favreau to stride forward and take up a position behind the early leaders. Prompt Prodigy – rider R King was fined $800 under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using the whip on nine occasions prior to the 100m. RACE 4 – Canadian Club Emancipation Stakes (Group 2) 1500m Oceanex – was a late scratching at 1.40 pm on veterinary advice when the mare was found to have swelling to its off foreleg. The stable was advised that a veterinary clearance would be required prior to Oceanex being permitted to race or barrier trial again. Nimalee – began only fairly. All Saints' Eve – slow to begin. Rich Hips – slow to begin and from a wide barrier was then shifted behind runners in the early stages. Krone – slow to begin. Rider T Clark stated that the mare travelled comfortably in the run and was able to improve towards the inside, which he had anticipated doing today. He stated that when asked to respond to his riding, Krone did not stretch out and whilst the mare won on a Good (3) last start in the Coolmore Classic, in his view the mare may have appreciated a surface with more give in it, particularly late into her preparation. A post race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be lame (1/5) behind and to have a minor abrasion to the off hind bumper. Trainer Mr T Gollan advised that Krone had pleased him leading into today's race and had not exhibited any signs of lameness. He agreed with the assessment of T Clark that whilst Krone had performed well on good surfaces, being deep into her preparation, she may not have appreciated today's track conditions. Mr Gollan was advised a veterinary clearance would be required prior to Krone racing/barrier trialling again. Mr Gollan undertook to report any further abnormalities with the mare subsequent to the race. Amica – began awkwardly. From a wide barrier was then shifted behind runners in the early stages. Near the 200m, Quantum Mechanic shifted out away from Icebath crowding Amica out on to Rich Hips for a short distance. Icebath – from the outside barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages. Quantum Mechanic – in the early stages of the straight, laid in behind Sweet Deal as it was being shifted to the outside of that runner. RACE 5 – E Group Security Star Kingdom Stakes (Group 3) 1200m California Zimbol – bumped shortly after the start by Prime Candidate. Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Outback Barbie – from the outside barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages. Over the final 100m could not be tested when placed close to the heels of Easy Eddie. Brandenburg – from a wide barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages. A post race veterinary examination revealed Brandenburg to be lame (2/5) in the off foreleg.
