Publishing this StatisticalYearbook provides an easy access to a rich source of statisticalinformation and data which will help the ministries,independent government organizations, NGOs andthe private sector as well as international community in the country to formulate policies andmake evidence based decisions. The Statistical Yearbook provides data onEconomic and Social Sectors through the main categories such as Population, Agriculture,Education, Health, National Accounts, Consumer Price Index, Industry, Construction,Mines and Energy, Services, Foreign Trade, Financial Statistics and Foreign Aids. Data on settled population estimates (excludingnomads) indicates that total settled population of the country is 24.5 million in 2010-11 out of which 5.7 million were living in urban areas and 18.8 million in rural areas.Nomadic population is estimated as 1.5 million. The data also shows that average annualpopulation growth rate for the country is 2.03 percent and total fertility rate is 6.3 whichis the highest compared to other South Asian Countries. Data on education indicates that more than 7.2millions students are enrolled in schools in 2010 -11 out of which 4.5 millions are malesand the remaining are females. The data also shows that in spite increase in the number offemale students compared to previous year, still there is bigdifference in between boys and girls in education. Data on higher educations shows that 107296students are enrolled in the Universities and higher education institutions in 2010 -11.Out of which 87938 students were males, that is for each female student there are morethan 5.3 male students. Data on health facilities indicates that in spiteof increase in the number of hospitals and health centers in 2010 -11 still sufficient healthfacilities are not available to the public (there are only 5 beds and 2 doctors for 10000population ). Gross Domestic Production (GDP) computationindicates that the value of GDP is US$ 16.3 billion in 2010 -11. Based on this GDP percapita is US$ 629 and GDP growth rateis 3.2 percent. Data on agriculture sector shows that due tounfavorable climate wheat production in 2010 -11 decreased by 10.7 percent compared to2009- 10.Corresponding figures for barley Afghanistan Statistical Yearbook 2010 -11 1 w n g 0111s 4.3Au.aaii and maize was 10,8 and 5percent respectively. But rice production increasedby 2.6 percent. In manufacturing sector data collectedshows that the value of government industries production, due to privatizing has decreased in2010 -11 while the value of privatesector production has increased. Data collected shows that in thepast years communication sector has developed. That is, number of fixed line telephones increasedby 30 percent and similarly mobile phones SIM cards sold till the end of 1389 (March2011) reached 16.1 million. Data obtained from monthly pricesurvey, which is reflected in 2010 -11 Statistical Yearbook, shows that the level of priceson an average has increased by 13.7 percent in 2010 -11.
