AEOLIAN ISLANDS STROMBOLI Day One: Stromboli

AEOLIAN ISLANDS STROMBOLI Day One: Stromboli

AEOLIAN ISLANDS STROMBOLI Day One: Stromboli Stromboli is the northernmost island of the archipelago and the most spectacular for its continuously active volcano. On the way, you will stop for a nice swim in the clear blue water. At sunset the lava from the volcano glowes as it makes its way down to meet the sea with a loud hiss. To watch the eruptions is especially impressive at night Enjoy the volcanic eruptions lighting up the night sky, a fiery display of nature’s incredible power, while you taste the tasteful delicacies of the chef under the stars. PANAREA Day Two/Three: Panarea Morning departure for Panarea. Panerea is tiny, compared to the other islands, but is the most picturesque with its stark white houses and brilliant yellow ginestra bushes. This island is chic and exclusive. By boat is the best way to explore its coastline and enjoy its clear waters that, together with a thriving underwater landscape make this island the best place for snorkeling and diving in the Aeolians. The island’s charm lies not only in its natural beauty but in its unspoiled character and car-free tracks. Most of the beaches are only accessible by sea, like Lisca Bianca, Basiluzzo and Spinazzola. Panerea is also called the "jet-set" island as it is crowded with young celebrities and its nightlife is particularly lively. SALINA Day Four: Salina Salina is a lush island with thick yellow gorse bushes and terraced vineyards. The island is also known for its delicious Malvasia wine, produced in both red and white varieties. A shore excursion should be on the schedule to buy some of the local capers packed in salt. After your shopping expedition some snorkeling or diving, you could hike on one of the island’s many trails where you will see wild flowers, vineyards, and lemon, caper and olive trees. If you wish to dine ashore, Santa Maria is the best choice, a little seaside resort crowded with local restaurants and bars. Filicudi & alicudi Day Five: Filicudi & Alicudi Start with a quick swim and after a leisurely breakfast, on to Filicudi for a quick exploration of the prehistoric village ruins on the Capo Graziano promontory. Filicudi is the widest and prettiest of the Aeolian Islands with crystal-clear water and deep grottoes. The most attractive of these is Grotta del Bue Marino (Grotto of the Monk Seal) which can be explored by tender. Real isolation escapists should head for Alicudi, the furthest island from Lipari and the least developed of all the Aeolian and home only to a handful of fisherman. We suggest you to spend the evening on board and enjoy the breathtaking view of the aeolians at sunset while sipping a delicious “aperitivo” and, later on, a gourmet dinner. LIPARI Day Six: Lipari Start the day with a stroll around the old town of Lipari, the largest island of the Aeolians. Lipari offers the widest selection of restaurants, shops, and things to do. Make sure to visit the interesting archeological museum (all the explanations are written in English); or if you are not into history, how about a hike to the top of Mount Sant'Angelo for a view that will leave you breathless? By the time you have finished, nothing is better than a refreshing swim and some time on board to relax. At night, Lipari is full of life compared with the other sleepy islands. Boutiques and shops selling Sicilian ceramics along the main street, Corso Vittorio Emanuele, stay open until 9 or 10 P.M. Bakeries selling cassata and other Sicilian specialties by day at night serve gelati and granite at outdoor tables until 1 or 2 A.M. VULCANO Day Seven: Vulcano Morning departure for Vulcano. According to mythology, this fabulous island was the house of the god of fire. It is studded with fantastic formations, both above ground and underwater. The nooks and crannies are teaming with rainbow color fish and anemones. Vulcano is famous all over the world for its therapeutic mud baths and hot springs. They are located within easy walking distance from the harbour: you can walk up to the crater where you will see many places where smoke comes out of the ground. Relax by the natural mud baths: the mud is thought to possess healing and soothing qualities for the skin. Next to the mud baths, walking up to the peak of the island's main volcano is a must: you’ll be greeted with a stunning panorama of the Aeolian’s, jutting out to the Tyrrhenian sea. Today you will also enjoy great diving and snorkeling, and, if the fishing gods are smiling, fresh fish on the grill for dinner. Overnight here and the next morning disembark in Milazzo. Bon Voyage!
