Seven SCUBA divers worked on the bottom of Tobermory Harbour. The 139 people who cleaned up the surrounding streets and shorelines got almost as wet as the divers. You could describe the weather as “uncooperative”. But despite the rain, 981 pounds of garbage went to the dump the next morning, says Matt Buckley, including six tires that came out of the harbour. In addition, quite a bit of junk found its way directly into the dumpsters at the head of the harbour. The clean-up crew included Mayor McIver and Councillor Ray Burns along with children as young as three and a number of people in their seventies.
