Custer earned the spot by winning at Kentucky Speedway in Sparta on Sunday with a thrilling, four-wide pass with two laps remaining. Custer’s first points-paying Cup Series start at Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway came on May 31. The 22-year-old’s race ended prematurely after he was involved in a multi-car accident. Custer’s win at Kentucky notched Stewart-Haas Racing’s first at the 1.5-mile oval. It was also the first time a Cup Series rookie has won there. 2020 mark’s Custer’s first full-time season in the Cup Series, and he is contending for Rookie of the Year honors along with four other competitors.
