River bank deposits dating from the medieval period to the 17th century were identified. The land was reclaimed in the 18th century and dumping deposits were identified for this period. Cellars and building structures were identified dating to the 19th century. A medieval ditch with associated post holes was identified. Undated pits ditches and layers were identified, which were probably from post-medieval agricultural activity. These features were sealed by post-medieval dump deposits, brick and concrete walls, floors, boundary ditches, pits and quarry pits. These were formed by industrial activity on the site. A fieldwalking and earthwork survey was carried out on the site of the proposed wind farm. The earliest phase identified related to Iron Age and Roman salt production, with briquetage been recovered from three areas of the site. Medieval and post-medieval occupation deposits were recovered from the former sites of two hamlets. The earthwork survey identified a medieval building platform and two 15th century building platforms. Deep modern disturbance was identified. A 13th century burial was identified in trench 2 at a depth of 1.10m. The burial was associated with the Dominican Friary to the south east of the site. Finds from the Mesolithic to modern periods were recovered and a number of possible sites identified. A possible Roman villa on the route was further established with the recovery of Roman artefacts from the 2nd to 4th century. Evidence of the medieval grange and wharf in the same field was also recovered. Possible Neolithic/Bronze Age and Romano British activity was also identified on the route. Several areas could not be surveyed due to the land being used as pasture. The earliest phase was represented by a V shaped Roman ditch. The ditch dated to the 2nd century and was style associated with Roman forts, suggesting the eastern site may contain a previously unknown fort. Some 3rd to 4th century cremations and inhumations were identified along with domestic occupation features comprising of ditches pits and post holes. Early medieval pottery was recovered and refuse pits were encountered. The remains of medieval structures, dump deposits and refuse pits were recorded. Post- medieval clay lined pits and stone lined pits were also identified. Modern paving slabs and make up material were identified sealing 19th century building remains. Below the structures waterlogged silts were identified. These seats were identified as having high potential for archaeology and or organic deposits.
