In doing so I would like to say that this will be my last report as President. As most of you are aware I was elected to the NSW Cricket Board in September and the commitment to this position means that I will step down as President of Illawarra. The 2012-13 was a successful one for the Association. I believe the Association is in a good position to further its successes in the next few seasons. I base this assessment on the achievements of the Association both on and off the field. The season began with a trial T20 game between the Sydney Thunder and an Invitational Illawarra XI. This match was a wonderful success and was again able to showcase the wonderful facility we have at North Dalton Park. To all those volunteers who gave up their time to ensure the game was a success I thank you. The Association needs to also thank Gujarat NRE for making the game possible. The Association is in a sound financial position. This is due to the many organisations that support us financially. Cricket NSW is of course or major financial contributor. Their funding includes the Zone grant, Development Manager, Regional Director of Coaching, Zone Administrator and various carnivals that our representative players participate in. We have also enjoyed financial support from the IMB. This season the Association moved to a new format for the grade competitions. On the whole I think it has been a success but as with all new initiatives it may take at least one more season to be fine-tuned. Dean Merola was the guiding force behind this change and I believe should be acknowledged for his contribution. The many hours of setting the competition up and the many e-mails that followed during the season meant that Dean put in an enormous amount of time and energy into trying to make it a success. At the end of the season we had new 1st Grade premiers in Helensburgh. This was truly a dream come true for our northern most club. For 26 years players and officials of the club have dreamt of such a moment. The hard work of the many who have volunteered their services over that period were finally realised. Congratulations! Keira also deserve congratulations on a fantastic season. They are clearly our top club at the moment and won premierships throughout the grades and the Club Championship. Again the people off the field need to be acknowledged for their contribution. Our representative teams performed well. The Senior team had one poor session in Wagga at the Country Championships and this cost it the chance to defend their title at Orange. The Colts team has not been defeated in two seasons but again were frustrated by bad weather. I believe that we would have one at least one Championship in that time. The Under 19s and under 17’s also performed with credit. The performance of our representative teams was reflected in the number of players selected in NSW teams. Graeme Batty, Tim Laws, Dale Scifleet and Andrew Hicks were all selected in the NSW Country team that went through the national championships undefeated. We have never had four players selected in this team before. As well as these senior selections we had Ben Chapman and Kyle Brockley selected in the NSW Under 17 team and Tyler Edwards selected in the ACT Under 17 team. The wonderful win in last season’s Kookaburra Cup was followed up by a win in the Bradman Cup. This double is a fantastic achievement. To Mark Waldock and his players and manager you deserve our warmest congratulations. Wollongong City Council continues to produce some of the best wickets played on in rural and regional New South Wales. The wicket for the Thunder game was again a beauty and received favourable comment from players and officials alike. Cricket in Illawarra would certainly suffer without the support of Wollongong City Council. This Association is indeed fortunate to have a dedicated Zone Administrator in Glyn Stanham. Not many people realise the amount of time that goes into running this Association. Unfortunately some clubs seem to think it is easier for Glyn to do some of their jobs than they do it themselves. This is not on and again I am forced to question club administrators. The amount of money collected in fines this year clearly shows that some clubs need to seriously get their administrations in order. This season can’t pass without me acknowledging a couple of individuals. Firstly, Denis Veronese was awarded Life Membership. To be awarded this honour it goes without saying that Denis has done an enormous amount for cricket in the Illawarra. The other person that I must mention is Graeme Batty. Graeme has proven to be one of the finest players to play 3 in our competition. He captained NSW Country to an undefeated championship win in Bundaberg. Graeme has now won the Ring Trophy and the Joe Waldock Trophy an impressive five times each and I suspect he is not finished yet. The Association is also very fortunate to have a Development Manager of the calibre of Paul Brockley. His efforts over many years are bearing fruit that is reflected in the performances of our representative teams especially at the junior level. His job with Cricket is a difficult one when one considers the distances he must travel to carry out his duties. We also need to remember the contribution of Bruce Whitehouse who ensures that our representative programme runs well. His guidance on administrative matters with the zone is also very valuable. This Association has also been fortunate in having a very proactive Management Committee. Without these people the efficient running of the Association would indeed be under pressure. To each and every one of you I thank you on behalf of the Association for your commitment to making the Association one of the best in Country Cricket. Finally, I would like to thank my wife Kerrie, she has spent many nights alone this season and without her support I would not have been able to perform the many roles I have in cricket administration. I would like to thank Cricket Illawarra for their support over many years, particularly the last three. Ian Hogg – President JUNIOR SUB-COMMITTEE CHAIRPERSON’S REPORT The 2012/13 season represented a season of some change in both the junior sub-committee administration and competition formats. The junior sub-committee administration changed slightly on previous seasons where the responsibility a running the junior competition was further delegated to a smaller competition committee within the overall junior sub-committee. This structure minimised the number of meetings required for all club delegates to attend and allowed matters relating to competitions to be resolved in a more timely and efficient manner. A number of new administrative documents were implemented outlining the necessary junior activities, timings, protocols and responsibilities for all clubs to follow each season into the future. The return to a smaller number of traditional junior general committee meetings of club delegates throughout the season still allowed any major decisions to be made and ratified. It was pleasing to note that all clubs embraced the changes and more often than not all clubs were represented and club delegates attended the required meetings.
