Cullman Hall of the Universe on Friday, February 15. During this ongoing party series, guests can dance in the Museum’s Rose Center for Earth and Space to the sounds of the biggest names in techno, electronica, hip-hop, and indie rock. Guests can also enjoy the Hayden Big Bang Theater, located in the lower part of the Hayden Sphere, which features a dynamic multi-media presentation, narrated by acclaimed actor Liam Neeson, that takes visitors on a thrilling four-minute trip from Earth to the edge of the visible universe. Each ticket also includes one pass to the Museum for future use. Visuals for One Step Beyond are produced by Glowing Pictures. WHEN: February 15, 2013, 9 pm–1 am WHO: Foster the People, headliner (DJ set) Foster the People was founded by Mark Foster in Los Angeles, California, in 2009. After releasing their debut album Torches in May 2011, Foster’s breakthrough song “Pumped Up Kicks” became a crossover hit on commercial radio. “Pumped Up Kicks” reached number one on Billboard’s Alternative Songs chart, number three on the Rock Songs chart, and number three on the Billboard Hot 100. Foster the People received two Grammy Award nominations for Torches and “Pumped Up Kicks.” Javelin, support Formed by two cousins, George Langford and Tom Van Buskirk, Javelin began in 2005 in Providence, Rhode Island. In 2008, after performing at MoMA, they moved to Brooklyn. After signing with the label Luaka Bop, they released their debut album No Mas. They have toured with many others such as Yeasayer, Sleigh Bells, Matt & Kim, Warpaint, and more; and performed at Lollapalooza and the Whitney Museum, as well as other parties across the United States, Europe, and South America. Their new record, Hi Beams, will be released this Spring. Dopeshoes, opening DJ DJ and producer Dopeshoes currently lives in Brooklyn, New York. She began DJing while living in California, at the Friday-night party Soul Sauce. She went on to DJ multiple parties including Instant Funk, one of San Diego’s only all funk, soul 2 and disco nights. A frequent guest on Earthbound Radio and Jazz 88.3, she was invited in 2008 to become a member of Homegrown Blends, a renowned artist collective based on the West Coast. In late 2010, Dopeshoes relocated to Brooklyn, New York. By day, she works at Turntable Lab and writes for the music section of Time Out New York. By night, she DJs at venues throughout New York City. WHERE: American Museum of Natural History. Guests should enter through the Weston Pavilion entrance on Columbus Avenue at 79th Street.
