Best read in a crazy voice, acting out monster chomping and clawing, with a big relief at the end and hug. Son, almost 1, loves it. I so love this concept. I wish it had been done with a teeny bit more finesse. View 1 comment. Apr 13, Dmitry Sedor rated it it was amazing. It could have been so much more, a color primer or a pattern primer, even a Little Master Carroll: Jabberwocky hide and seek book I recommend others in the series over this one. Jun 26, Katie Fitzgerald rated it really liked it Shelves: format-board-books, little-jumping-joan. I love the pictures in this book, but it's disappointing that the text of the poem has been abridged. This poem is so pleasing to the ear for listeners of all ages - surely, even a toddler could sit to listen to the full text. Still, it's a nice introduction to Carroll's imagination. I especially love the mome raths! Aug 17, Brent Weeks rated it liked it Shelves: kid-lit. I like the premise of these books: exploring colors and animals and body parts and weather and so forth through the use of various great works of literature of the past. Little Master Carroll: Jabberwocky certainly adds some interest and flavor for parents who had the misfortune to be English majors. That said, elsewhere Little Master Carroll: Jabberwocky execution is uneven. For example, I bought the Jabberwocky mainly to see how th I like the premise of these books: exploring colors and animals and body parts and weather and so forth through the use of various great works of literature of the past. For example, I bought the Jabberwocky mainly Little Master Carroll: Jabberwocky see how they were going to handle the decapitation! Sadly, that part of this very short poem was excised. But who exactly is this book for? My child appears to have been a master of nonsense from quite young. Jan 28, Cara Byrne rated it it was amazing. Finally a BabyLit board book that is well written and illustrated for children and adults! This is one of the few titles in the Little Master Carroll: Jabberwocky that is well done, as its illustrations fit the poem and the prose is engaging for young readers and challenging for adults to read in a completely appropriate way. Perhaps the adaptation of this poem into a board book is an easier transition for the BabyLit writers as Carroll's nonsense poem was originally in a work meant for children and plays with a trop Ah! Perhaps the adaptation of this poem into a board book is an easier transition for the BabyLit writers as Carroll's nonsense poem was originally in a work meant for children and plays with a trope very common in works for small children. I would recommend this book above any of the other titles in the series - including Sense and Sensibility, Jane Eyre, Pride and Prejudice, and Moby Dick - in a heartbeat. Feb 23, Emily Vander Ark rated it it was ok Shelves: picturebook. Jabberwocky is by far one of my favorite poems. I can usually recite it from memory. So imagine my bewilderment when the boy in the poem goes from thinking under a tree to his father's arms. Something missing? I really love the illustrations. But without any mention of the vorpal blade, the book makes no sense. But then, it does say it is a "nonsense primer" right on the cover. I get that it's a children's book and most board books don't depict the beheading of a scary monster. But I felt that t Jabberwocky is by far one of my favorite poems. But I felt that the book needed more. Plus, they cut the word "uffish. Feb 26, Jennifer rated it it Little Master Carroll: Jabberwocky amazing. If you know me or my favorite author no, not Lewis Carroll or my favorite series no, not Alice in Wonderlandthen you know why I had to buy this. Little Master Carroll: Jabberwocky truly goes bonkers flipping through it, flapping his arms and hooting. The art is simple, sharp and vibrant and it's a joy to see him engage so fully with it. Sep 27, Heather rated it it was amazing Shelves: kids. My 3-year-old loves this abbreviated version of the Jabberwocky, and goes Little Master Carroll: Jabberwocky the house reciting it. The illustrations are colourful and whimsical. Highly recommended if your kids are fans of Dr. Seuss and other silly-sounding rhyming books. Feb 17, K. McDevitt rated it really liked it. Jabberwocky was one of the first poems I ever memorized when I was a kid, so I was immediately drawn to this board book when I spotted it at the BCinDC meetup today. It is an illustrated version of the poem that includes the full first verse and just a few lines plucked from various verses of the rest of the poem i. The illustrations were bold, quirky, and creative. Illustrating Lewis Carroll's nonsense words takes a great amount of creativity, but the artist succeeded well. The mome wraths outgrabing was my second favorite. Oct 01, Jeremy rated it liked it Shelves: animalschildren-yapoetryread-to-katefictionread-to-oliviaread-to-sophie. Doesn't have the Little Master Carroll: Jabberwocky poem, but a lot more of the original text than other editions in this series mainly because of the type of text that's being translated into board book form [it's a short poem, not a novel]. But the coolest part the slaying of the monster was left out! Jabberwocky - Wikipedia The artwork is modern, using a Little Master Carroll: Jabberwocky palette on each page, which can make the illustration difficult to see page 2. However, the choice of colours is bold and unusual in a preschool book of this kind and makes a refreshing change from the usual primary colours in books of this type. The illustrations are large, clear and simple and as such, are suitable for the target age group. The text wording is in capitals throughout and this does make it slightly trickier to read. It should also be noted that parents do like their children to become sight-familiar with words and letters, preferably in lower case to prepare them for learning to read. The pages have a waxy finish, which feels good to the touch and gives the impression of quality. Overall, I really did think this was a lovely book. The poem, the illustrations and the use of colour were all excellent. The book Little Master Carroll: Jabberwocky well bound, felt Little Master Carroll: Jabberwocky to handle and well-proportioned. It was let down by the use of capital letters in the text and the lack of contrast in the illustrations on page 2. I would happily buy this book for my own children.
