Together they serve a population of over 360,000. We are continually updating facilities to ensure state-of- the-art care environments for all service users and staff. • New paediatric units are being constructed at Daisy Hill Hospital and Craigavon Area Hospital to support implementation of the Trust’s Changing for Children strategy. • The paediatric unit at Daisy Hill Hospital will provide a dedicated paediatric theatre and recovery area to facilitate elective paediatric surgery; a 19-bed ward and an ambulatory area. The unit at Craigavon Area Hospital will provide 19 beds, an ambulatory area and an outpatient area. CHKS Top 40 Hospitals In 2016, for the fifth consecutive year, both Daisy Hill and Craigavon Area Hospital – our acute hospital network – have been named one of the UK’s top facilities in the CHKS Top 40 Hospitals programme, which recognises achievements in healthcare quality, improvement and performance. Queen’s University Belfast Teaching Hospitals Both Daisy Hill Hospital and Craigavon Area are Queen’s University Belfast Teaching Hospitals, offering high-quality clinical placements to medical students as part of the student doctor undergraduate programme. Supporting your CPD You will have access to the Trust’s Medical Education Centre, which boasts excellent library facilities provided in association with the Medical Library at Queen’s University, Belfast. There is access to electronic online medical databases, such as Med-line and Cochrane, and regular teaching sessions take place in the Medical Education Centre. 07 2015-16 DAISY HILL 59,608 HOSPITAL Outpatient The Hospital is an essential part of the hospital network provided by the Attendances Southern Trust. Its natural catchment is a rural population stretching from (Consultant Led) Castlewellan in the north to Banbridge, Kilkeel, Newry and Armagh through to Louth in the Republic of Ireland. Daisy Hill Hospital is one of the best- performing hospitals in Northern Ireland in meeting the 4-hour Emergency 1,803 Department waiting time target, as set by the Department of Health. It is also recognised for pre-Membership training of Junior Attendances Doctors, who are supplied by NIMDTA (Northern Ireland Medical Dental & Training Agency), for successful mentoring and supervising of both compulsory and elective periods.
