The Shadow Hearts series was developed by Sacnoth (renamed Nautilus for later games in the series) and published by Aruze in Japan and Midway in North America and Europe. However, Shadow Hearts: From the New World have been announced XSEED Games in North America and Ghostlight in Europe. Common elements of playing All three shadow hearts games are RPGs based on turn. There are two unique elements in shadow hearts games. Court ring For almost every combat action and for some mini-games, the player is presented with the Doomsday Ring. This is shown as a circular field that has a radar line that passes through a circle one way. There are several colored areas in this field. To successfully complete the action, the player must press the button as the line passes through the area. For direct attacks, there is one or more of these areas and as long as Is hit correctly, the player can try to make more attacks inside the same turn. For most offensive and some defensive spells, there are areas that have to be affected before the last major area for the spell to be successfully completed. Most other actions have only one area to hit. For attacks, offensive and healing spells, there is also a narrow red area at the end of some parts; if this area is affected, then the advantage of attack, magic or object increases slightly; however, it is easy to miss these areas and fail to move. In general, there are a number of ways in which the ring can be changed willingly and unprepared in games. Special items or people can expand the size of the marked areas to reduce the chance of missing a tag or even add a new zone for an additional attack. Equitable objects can change the way the Ring behaves, trading with other statistics; for example, the speed of the character in combat (more frequent attack) at the cost of faster cleaning of the Ring. Monsters can cause changes in the status of the Ring, such as increasing the cleaning speed or reducing the visible size of the ring, which can be cured by spells, objects or returned after the end of the battle. Some players complained about The Judgment Ring after the first game, arguing that it was too much of a game. To silence them, the second and third games have the option to completely turn off the ring. As a compromise, it prevents the player from performing critical punches, punches and other special effects, essentially creating a large handicap in exchange for reduced difficulties. Sanity Points In addition to the usual Hit Points and Mana Points for each character, there are also Sanity Points (SP), which reduce every turn the character is in combat (as a depiction of the character's exposure to scary and crazy creatures) or can also dry it out enemies. When the figure reaches zero healthy points, this figure becomes Berserk; the character will perform random actions on random battle participants (including the player's party) with increased bonuses until some points of common sense are returned or until the battle is over; If the latter occurs, all players, regardless of Berserk's condition, will fully recover their common sense points. As with Hit Points and Mana Points, there are ways to return common sense points in combat. The Valentine family In every game was at least one member of the Valentine family present as a character that can be played. Valentine's Day is a family of vampires, but their appearance is obscured by the typical Dracula-inspired traits to be dark-haired and pale skin; instead, they are blue, blue-eyed and fair skin without having trouble being in the sun (or any of the typical vampire weaknesses). Games Koudelka Main article: Koudelka PlayStation game Koudelka, Sacnoth's first effort, is technical to Shadow Hearts, although the connection with him is not as strong as the connection between the other games. Some of the events taking place in Koudelka are mentioned in the Shadows, and some elements (including characters) from Koudelka also return to the Hearts of the Shadows. [1] Main article: Shadow Hearts (video game) Shadow Hearts takes place ten years after Koudelka, 1913, in the same universe. On the branch of the Trans-Siberian Railway in Manchuria, the protagonist of the game, Yuri Volte Hyuga (Urumof Uru Bort Hyuga in the Japanese version), hears a voice in his head telling him to save the young Alice Elliot, whose father was recently murdered in the most brutal way in Rouen, France. After an English gentleman named philosopher Roger Bacon tries to abduct Alice himself from the Japanese army, Yuri rescues her and begins a search through China (and finally Europe) to discover Alice's importance, Bacon's intention, the identity of the mysterious voice and his own relevance. Hearts of Shadows: Testament Main article: Hearts of Shadows: Covenant of The Heart of Shadows: The Covenant (also called Shadow Hearts II) directly proceeds from the story at the end of the Heart of the Shadows, assuming that the bad ending was correct. This game has 2 DVD ROM discs instead of the usual 1, which provides (according to the publisher) 40 hours of playplay. The city of Domremy stubbornly refused to fall for German progress at the beginning of the First World War thanks to the help of a demon who seems to be defending it. Lieutenant Karin Koenig of the German Army was sent along with a person claiming to be an inquisitor from the Vatican, Nicolai Conrad, to acquire the means to erase this demon. However, the Domremy demon is actually Harmonixer Yuri from the first Hearts of Shadows. Yuri, Karin and Nicolai soon became embattled in a conspiracy involving secret plots, the Russian royal family, the Japanese foreign minister, the mystical koudelka tome and more. The game as a whole has been restored from Shadow Hearts, including graphics, cutscenes, voices, the way the Doomsday Ring worked,[2] and the cast of characters, with several from the original game repeating in cameo roles. Critics of the game have also smiled at Shadow Hearts: Covenant much more than the original, and there seems to be a general consensus that the game's overall improvement at first. Shadow Hearts: From the New World Main Article: Shadow Hearts: From the New World This game begins in North America in 1929 and features two new main characters: 16-year-old New Yorker Johnny Garland, and 21-year-old native American Shania. Shania has fusion powers similar to Yuri and Kuranda in previous Shadow Hearts entries, but Shania is not a Harmonixer. Instead, she makes a pact with the spirits, in direct contrast to Yuri and Kuranda who have turned into demons. The story begins with A private detective hired by a man named Gilbert to find someone named Marlow Brown. However, when Johnny finds the man, a mysterious window opens, and a love monster emerges from him. The rest of the game follows Johnny, Shania and company as they try to uncover the truth about Gilbert and his plans. Whether From The New World is closer to a spin-off or a sequel, the game has several links to the previous game. In addition to a few returning characters (Roger Bacon, Lenny Curtis, Joachim Valentine, Keith Valentine (as Silver Bat), Hildegarde Valentine (as Peach Bat in Shadow Hearts: Covenant, here as a character who can play in Johnny's party) and Gerard (shop owner), as well as objects (Émigré), and the manuscript mentions important events that occurred in Shadow Hearts II, such as Nicolai (Nicholas) Conrad's release of Malice. Notes ^ Known from 2002 to 2007 as Nautilus. ^ a b Hearts of shadows: Only from the New World.
