It all started out with a four-team league that was designed to follow Little League Baseball, which at that time was only involved with the 5- 12 age categories. In 1952 the Middle Atlantic Region of Babe Ruth Baseball was established with the formation of a division for 13-15 year-olds. The Middle Atlantic Region was made up of Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Virginia, West Virginia and Ontario, Canada. In 1965 New York was divided into two “states” – Upstate New York and Metro New York. 4 In 1968 New Jersey was divided into two “states” – Northern New Jersey and Southern New Jersey. Northern New Jersey Southern New Jersey In 1970 West Virginia was moved into the Ohio Valley Region and Virginia was moved into the Southeast Region. In 1987 another “state” was added when Upstate New York was further divided into Western New York and Eastern New York. Western New York Eastern New York Metro New York 5 In 2016 Babe Ruth Leagues, Inc. combined Metro New York and Eastern New York into one state. Western New York Eastern New York In 2018 Babe Ruth Leagues, Inc. setup a pilot program to divide Eastern New York into North ENY and South ENY. That was made permanent in 2020 with the states being designated as Eastern New York and Southern New York Eastern New York Southern New York Today the Middle Atlantic Region for the 13-18 divisions consists of Delaware, Eastern New York, Southern New York, Maryland, Northern New Jersey, Southern New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Western New York, and Ontario, Canada. ADDING THE YOUNGER KIDS In 1982 Babe Ruth Leagues, Inc. created the Bambino Division for players 5-12 years of age. In 2000 that division was renamed to the Cal Ripken Division of Babe Ruth Baseball. In 2006 Pennsylvania split into two “states” -- Western PA and Metro PA -- for the Cal Ripken Division age groups. The names have since been changed to Northwest PA and Southeast PA. Today the Middle Atlantic Region for the 5-12 divisions consists of Delaware, Eastern New York, Southern New York, Maryland, Metro New York, Northern New Jersey, Northwest Pennsylvania, Southeast Pennsylvania, Southern New Jersey, Western New York, and Ontario, Canada.
