Welcome Week Saturday, September 12, 2015 8:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.: Family Welcome Center (Recreation Center Lobby, 33rd and Market Streets) Stop by and take a break from the hustle and bustle of moving in! A variety of Drexel service offices will be represented so that you can ask last-minute questions, while complimentary massages and visits with Jersey, our in-residence therapy dog, will help calm any frayed nerves. 8:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.: Creese Student Center (Chestnut Street, between 32nd and 33rd Streets) If you haven’t gotten your DragonCard yet, here’s the place to do it. Also, visit our neighborhood business partners, who’ll be demonstrating their wares. 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.: Alumni Association Open House (Paul Peck Alumni Center) The Drexel University Alumni Association is happy to welcome our newest Dragons to campus! Enjoy a respite from the day and visit the Paul Peck Alumni Center at the corner of 32nd and Market Streets. Students, parents, and families can enjoy light refreshments and connect with our staff and learn about the Alumni Association. Sponsored by the Drexel Alumni Association 10:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.: Shopping Trip! (Depart from Recreation Center, 33rd and Market Streets) Need to pick-up any last minute items for your residence hall? Feel free to stop by the Drexel Bookstore on campus at 33rd and Chestnut Streets or travel down to the shopping centers on Columbus Boulevard to visit Target and IKEA. Shuttles will depart from the Recreation Center promptly at 10:30 a.m. and will return to campus at 1:30 p.m., giving about an hour at each location. 2:30 – 5:30 p.m.: Shopping Trip! Commuter students will be assigned to a Resident Advisor at check-in. 5:00 – 8:00 p.m.: Welcome Barbecue (Perelman Plaza and Academic Quad) Enjoy dinner outdoors with new friends and classmates to the music of the DJs of WKDU, Drexel’s own radio station. 7:00 – 9:00 p.m.: Men’s Soccer vs. Iona (Vidas Athletic Field) Cheer on our men’s soccer team as they play Iona College and (literally) kick off the team’s season. It’s a great way to get involved with Drexel school spirit! Remember that Drexel competes in Division I of the NCAA (National Collegiate Athletics Association) which means that every game is played at the highest level of collegiate ability in the country. The programs have been designed to introduce you to the richness of the Drexel experience, as well as to help you transition to the University and to Philadelphia. Some programs have limited registration. If registration is full for something you’re interested in doing, check out other days of the week since many programs are being repeated. Take special note of the workshops called Direct Service. Volunteering in our community is as much a part of being a Dragon as going to class and preparing for co-op, so take advantage of some of these early opportunities to begin serving your new community. 9:00 – 10:00 a.m.: Yoga & Breakfast Buffet (A.J. Drexel Picture Gallery, 3rd Floor, Main Building) Start the week with yoga class followed by a healthy breakfast buffet. Registration limited to 30. Sponsored by the Drexel Collection, University Communications 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.: Immunization Clinics (Multipurpose Room, North Hall) The Immunization Clinic is available to all students and will offer the following vaccines: PPD test ($20) Meningococcal ($135), TDAP ($80.00), and Hepatitis B ($85.00). Students must pay by cash, check or credit card and a receipt will be given for reimbursement through your insurance company if this is a covered expense. The clinic will run September 14th, 15th, 17th & 18th from 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. and will be located in North Hall (3200 Race Street). The clinic will not be open on September 16th. We want to help you smoothly transition to college life at Drexel University, so this workshop will cover: What your rights are as a college student who has disabilities; What will be expected of you as you transition to Drexel; What you can expect from the Office of Disability Resources staff, your professors, and other Drexel staff; How to make the best use of your approved accommodations; What on- and off-campus resources exist to support all students academically, socially, and professionally. Sponsored by the Office of Disability Resources 10:00 a.m. – 2:15 p.m.: Direct Service: Urban Farming with Urban Tree Connection (Meet at the Drexel Dragon statue at 9.45 a.m.) We’ll be working with Urban Tree Connection, a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization that engages children and adults from some of Philadelphia's most disadvantaged neighborhoods in community-based, urban-greening projects. Volunteers will assist with gardening and general maintenance in their urban farm and other vacant lots/community gardens.
