THE CITADEL The Military College of South Carolina Charleston, South Carolina 29409 MEMORANDUM 4 April 2012 COMMENCEMENT ACTIVITIES – 3 MAY 2012 - 5 MAY 2012 The following arrangements are announced for COMMENCEMENT ACTIVITIES a. Awards Convocation will be held Thursday, 3 May at 1400 hours in McAlister Field House. All faculty members and commissioned staff are invited to attend. Uniform is Class A. b. Baccalaureate Service will be held Thursday, 3 May, at 1630 hours in the Summerall Chapel. The Academic Board and designated members of the commissioned staff are invited to join the procession from Mark Clark Hall to the Chapel and to wear academic regalia or Army Dress Blues or service equivalent. The procession will form on the second floor of Mark Clark Hall at 1600 hours. c. Graduation Parade will be held Friday, 4 May, at 1500 hours on Summerall Field. Uniform is Army Dress Blues, Class A’s, or appropriate service dress uniform. In the event of inclement weather, the parade will be canceled. d. A garden party for the graduating class and their families will be held at Quarters One by Lt Gen and Mrs. John W. Rosa following the parade. Faculty and designated members of the commissioned staff are cordially invited to attend. Uniform is Army Dress Blues, Class A’s, or appropriate service dress uniform. In the event of inclement weather, the reception will be canceled. e. Commissioning ceremonies will be held Friday 4 May: Place and Times: 0800 – Army – Summerall Chapel 1000 – Air Force – Summerall Chapel 1800 – Navy/Marine – Summerall Chapel f. The actual Swearing-In Ceremony for all military branches will take place on Saturday, 5 May, during the Commencement Exercises. g. Graduation Exercises for the South Carolina Corps of Cadets will be held Saturday, 5 May, beginning at 0900 hours in McAlister Field House. Designated members of the faculty and commissioned staff will attend the graduation exercises and will participate in the academic procession. Those participating will enter McAlister Field House through the Northwest Side. Dress for Commencement will be academic regalia --cap, gown, and hood –Army Dress Blues or the service dress equivalent. The Order of March for the procession on 5 May will be: The Official Platform Party will meet on the Third Floor McAlister Field House. Entrance will be through the center, wooden doors of McAlister Field House. Line-up for procession will form at 0840 The Academic Board will enter and meet on the First Floor, Northwest Side – McAlister Field House and will line-up at 0840 Alumni Parents and Grandparents of seniors who are graduating will enter and meet on the First Floor, Northwest Side—McAlister Field House and will line-up at 0840 Members of the faculty will enter and robe on the First Floor, Northwest Side - McAlister Field House and will line-up at 0840 The cadet members of the graduating class will assemble in Deas Hall NLT 0800 The non-cadet candidates for bachelor’s degrees will assemble in appropriate attire, NLT 0800 hours in Deas Hall. Marshals will direct ALL Groups to their respective seats. All other attendees (faculty family members and/or staff) must have a ticket for admittance and enter through the main entrance of McAlister Field House. h. Graduation exercises for all graduates completing degree requirements in The Citadel Graduate College will be held Saturday, 5 May, at 1600 hours in McAlister Field House. Candidates for degrees and Platform Party will assemble in Deas Hall, first floor, for robing. The CGC faculty members will attend the academic procession wearing academic regalia. Faculty will robe on the first floor, North side of McAlister Field House, the media conference area. The procession will form on the first Floor, North Side of McAlister Field House. Order of March in the procession will be: candidates for graduate and Undergraduate degrees, faculty, and the official party. The procession will form at 1530 hours. Following the ceremony, Lt Gen and Mrs. John W. Rosa will host a reception in honor of the graduates in Deas Hall. Samuel M. Hines, Jr., Ph.D. Provost and Dean of the College .
