Over the summer Josh flew to Germany to visit his dad, grandparents and cousins for a couple weeks. Typically every summer he goes to Germany, but this summer was his favorite because he got to do many different kinds of life things like try new food that is special to Germany. He also traveled to Niagara Falls for Labor Day weekend, New York City, Colorado and New Orleans. His favorite place to travel during Michaela Sturm - 10 summer is tropical places like Hawaii. They do not want to be called “twirlers” because that is a separate act in the unit of a marching band. To them it is insulting because being in Color Guard is a lot of hard work and they have to memorize routines. The Color Guard instructor is Mrs. Sola, Mr. Sola’s wife. Sarah Yoder stated that some of her favorite parts of Color Guard are “learning new routines” and “seeing kids’ faces in awe.” Brennan Yoder stated that when a person is in color guard, it is “really hard, but worth it.” Brennan also stated that he feels as though he “loves” his instructor Mrs. Sola and that she is like a “second mom” and is “really nice and supportive.” To get into Color Guard, you have to audition. Auditions are usually held at the end of the year, so that the directors can decide for the next season who is in and who isn’t. The Color Guard practices with the Marching Band, which is every Thursday. They do this because Color Guard and Marching Band work together to perform.
