Would support a bid from Hazelwick to run this school as part of the NE 2 1 1 1 Sector locality arrangement. Didn't know there was a difference between types of schools but Ofsted report, general ratings and feedback will sway me. Needs an academic focus 3 1 1 1 1 with sports, lots of activities but opportunities to work on occupational skills. 4 1 1 1 1 No comment. Totally opposed to the school being a Free School following the damning Ofsted report of our existing Free School, Discovery, and its inadequate rating. Serious concerns that children attending another Free School would also be failed in the same way. This would affect their follow pupils as they 5 1 1 1 1 joined together at secondary school. As a mother of two, my children are both attending community schools and I have nothing but praise for the community model. I note with great alarm that the Education & Inspections Act 2006, as amended by the Act of 2011 6 1 1 1 1 1 restricts the establishment of any new community schools. 7 1 1 1 No comment. 8 1 1 1 No comment. Not church aided because the people living in Crawley are mixed race and religion so a single faith school would not be a good idea. There needs to be plenty of physical activities, i.e. PE and games with 'old school' english and 9 1 1 1 maths. A smaller school (2FE or 3FE) would be preferable - more intimate. Outdoor areas and facilities, well resourced, good teaching, traditional assemblies with nursery, infants and primary altogether for continuity. Breakfast Clubs and 10 1 1 1 1 1 after-school clubs to help parents out. A school can be successful if run properly. When there is a good 11 1 1 1 Headteacher, performance and attainment is much better. Currently attends a faith school (Catholic) which is very good and better than council schools for studies and caring for children. Better benefits for school. 12 1 1 1 Prepared to travel for a good faith school. Should not be religious - public schools should be public not private. IT very important and foreign languages. Activities before and after school - keep 13 1 1 1 1 children occupied particularly in poorer areas. 14 1 1 1 Important that the school is run by a good Headteacher and good staff. More lunchtime activities besides the playground. Before and after-school 15 1 1 1 1 clubs on site for working mums and parents. Easier to report problems if anything is wrong and we are unhappy with education and standards. Better education - kind friendly teachers, equal 16 1 1 1 1 opportunities for asian and white together. I wish the school to be under WSCC control as the LEA. I am opposed to 17 1 1 1 1 Academy/Free School. It is good for children to compete as life is about competition and we need to 18 1 1 1 learn to 'loose'. We have a wide range of cultures and religions in the Crawley and Gatwick area so a church school is not appropriate. I fear an Academy or Free School would not have the support of the County Council to cater for all educational 19 1 2 1 1 1 1 needs. I support the idea of a church school as they have such a good reputation for the education they provide young children and would be a benefit to Crawley 20 1 1 1 1 town and its young children. The school should not be run by the Headteacher, Governors or staff of the Discovery New School in Crawley - our children deserve a far better education than they can provide. Concerned that a 2FE seems too small for the proposed areas needs - would prefer a 3FE in one phase. Also suggest placing the school in an area where plenty of room is given to school grounds. I hope that there is a plan to build a secondary school in the North East Sector, so that there is a local school to go to. Good pedestrian paths is important linked to the areas of Crawley that surround this 21 1 1 1 2 1 1 1 1 area. I feel that the county should have some responsibility for new schools in Crawley given the recent evidence that Crawley's existing Free Schools have 22 1 1 1 failed Ofsted inspection. This school should not be an Academy or Free School as it is my opinion that these are not a good long-term educational approach. The Government's policies on these types of schools are wrong. The school should also not be a faith school. I would strongly recommend a Council-run school. I suggest a single-phase development with an initial provision for 500 pupils. I would also like to see plenty of field space for sports and before and after-school care for 23 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 children. I have noted that there are no 'church' schools around the existing schools and I am very keen to have a Church of England school in the area. I attended a faith school myself and have a grandchild in one at present. I can 24 1 1 1 attest to the value. I would prefer the new school to be voluntary aided by Church of England. I understand the Diocese of Chichester is in support of this, and believe it would be beneficial to Crawley as a town to have a third CofE primary school, 25 1 1 1 1 especially in this location. I believe that the local secondary school, Hazelwick School, has a proven track record as a locall provider of education. They would be ideally placed to provide primary education, as they would have the supprt and expertise from the locality primary schools. These are all rated 'good' by Ofsted. I would be unhappy if an external sponsor were to be the provider. They would 26 1 1 1 1 1 not necessarily work with the local schools. 27 1 1 No comment. My view as a Local Authority Member is that C of E primary schools in Crawley are very successful and I am sure most parents would favour the 28 1 1 1 building of another voluntary aided school. As a resident, a Crawley Borough Councillor for Northgate, a WSCC Councillor for Northgate and Three Bridges and Leader of the Opposition on Crawley Borough Council - I would prefer the school to be a community school, or at the very least voluntary controlled/aided. Crawley's experience of Free Schools is that they let down children and parents, have a disruptive influence on the local area and cause reputational damage to local education 29 1 1 1 1 1 provision. I am not keen on the montessori or free school way of learning and would be wholly opposed to that type of school. I also would wish that any new school is completely inclusive regardless of religion as I believe this may restrict admissions and then put pressure on other local schools for places.
