ST. BENEDICT PARISH AND PREPARATORY SCHOOL TheMARCH 12, 2017Steward I SECOND SUNDAY OF LENT Christ Jesus . destroyed death and brought life and immortality to light through the gospel. -- 2 Timothy 1:10b Lord, It Is Good That We Are Here Geoff Pautsch, Director of Finance This Sunday, our Gospel reading recounts the Transfiguration of Jesus. St. Thomas Aquinas considered this miracle to be the greatest of miracles because it happened to Jesus himself. It is very appropriate that the Church provides us this reading during the season of Lent. The Transfiguration of Jesus gave the disciples a foretaste of what the glory of heaven will be. The Transfiguration of Jesus, like the Baptism of the Lord, are pivotal events in our Catholic faith where human nature meets the divine, a bridge between heaven and earth. During our time in Lent, we put additional focus on transforming our lives. In our case, however, it is our inward self that needs transforming rather than our outward self. God asks us to seek conversion of our mind and heart. God is calling us to share what he has given us However, we must be open to conversion for it with others. to occur. As we, at St. Benedict, have had a more intentional and specific focus on growing as disciples of Jesus, our Catechetical Commission and Spiritual Life Commission articulated that sometimes we grow closer to Jesus because of what we learn (Head) and sometimes we grow closer to Jesus because of our prayer, retreat experience, mission or some encounter (Heart). So not only will we hightlight the ways that we learn (Head) about Jesus in our Catechetical Conversations, we will also hightlight the ways we experience Jesus (Heart). 1 Spiritual Life Gatherings 2 Catechetical Please mark your calendars now and join your Conversations friends and community in what will be beautiful Beginning at 7PM in the Church faith-filled gatherings.
