PO BOX 15-119 CHAIRMAN’S Miramar, Wellington CHAIRMAN Peter Chote BOARD OF DIRECTORS COMMENTS Andrew Wilson Graham Watson Welcome back to David Farrington Park for what will be the Dave Wilson last game for 2020 before the competition takes a break for Jamie Farrington the Christmas and New Year period. GENERAL MANAGER I think it’s safe to say that this year has been one that most of us would Peter Becker like to forget, but it’s been great to have live sport back and finish the M: 027 448 8428 year watching the game we all love, at the ground we all love. E: [email protected] We head in to Round 6 of the ISPS Handa Men’s Premiership still ADMINISTRATOR undefeated, with two wins and three draws under our belt. We’ve had Rosie Telford plenty of chances this season and I trust the team have been working E: [email protected] hard this week to finish those and secure those all-important three STAFF points today. Head Coach A mention must go to our youngsters, Ben, Wan, Jake, Owen and Scott Hales Haris who have all come into the squad and stepped up, increasing Assistant Coach the competition for those starting spots which is always a good Stu Widdowson headache for any coach to have. GK / Assistant Coach By now you would have all read the news regarding the changes to Steve Dimakis the competition coming into effect next season. I speak for our Team Wellington board when I say that we are disappointed in the changes Sports Scientist to the domestic National League and what that means for us as a James Mac Aodhagain club moving forward. We believe, over the years, we have fostered Team Manager an environment of showcasing and developing the best local talent in Brendan Marsh our region and were clear on our position in our submission to New Zealand Football. While our focus remains on the current competition, Technical Analyst we will communicate our proposed way forward, next year. Sam Smith For today though, I’d like to welcome Lee, his staff and the Canterbury Physiotherapist United team to the capital for what will no doubt be an entertaining Corey Glover – TBI Health afternoon. To the fans, thank you for your continued support this Kitman season. From our football family to yours, we wish a very safe and Patrick Farrell Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Courtney Marsden Matchday Programme PETER CHOTE TEAM WELLINGTON CHAIRMAN Player Photography Photomac ISPS HANDA MEN’S PREMIERSHIP | 2020/21 SEASON Cameron McIntosh 3 WORD FROM THE COACH Welcome back to Davey F for our last fixture for 2020. Today we welcome Canterbury United, a side who we fully respect and a team looking to continue their momentum. As we look ahead to the match today, we must continue our performances and have a cutting edge to take the three points. We have improved each game, so today you’ll see another improved performance. With no disrespect to the teams we have faced the last three weeks, we have dropped points and should really be clear at the top of the league. That’s our mentality. We are here to win football matches. It’s been great to see our younger players step up and get minutes and starts. These are earnt, just like the ‘older’ players earn their minutes. It’s part of life. Well done Wan, Haris and Owen - so far. Lastly, obviously it’s been a tough year for everyone in Aotearoa, but I’m wishing you all a very Merry Christmas and a safe New Year. I stand with you all, that I’m looking forward to 2021! We welcome you all to the club rooms post-match and hope that you enjoy the game. This year has been a crazy journey and I am glad The match wasn’t smooth sailing for referee Nick we’ve all made it this far. A few months ago, I wasn’t Waldron who sent off two players just after the sure we would get much football so to get this far is equaliser. Luckily neither team got too much of an quite the achievement. advantage as it was one player from each side. Not something to write home about to be honest. The season is flying by, which is quite emotional for me. As we know, New Zealand Football have made A shout out has to go to Haris Zeb who very much the decision to change the format of the National impressed on his starting debut in yellow and black. League which means that the current franchise He will be pumped to take on his old side today, and is format will be no longer – switching to a club based no doubt hoping to get more minutes under his belt. competition. Today we take on Canterbury United who beat As a Team Wellington fan this hurts. This club has been an uncharacteristically 5th placed Auckland City a mainstay in my life for the past 10 years (I was quite last weekend with a 90th minute goal from Jacob late to this whole football thing). Summer Sundays Richards. That makes it two wins and two clean sheets spend on the side-line at Davey F, late afternoon in a row from this Canterbury side. They’ll be feeling BBQ snacks, and plenty of football on display. Not pretty confident after these results and will be bringing to mention the global travel I’ve done to support the their best to Wellington today. team. I hate the thought of going without – maybe that’s selfish – and I’m dreading the end of this season.
