Dales Academies Trust Dales Academies Trust is a new Multi Academy Trust (MAT), with sponsor status, for the northern church schools of the Anglican Dioceses of Leeds and York. As with the other church MATs across both dioceses, the Trust is open to church and non-church schools with a core purpose of providing an inclusive education for children of any ability, culture, gender, sexuality, faith or no faith. The ethos will be derived from and informed by the Church of England’s commitment to education and schooling over more than 200 years. The Diocese of Leeds commissioned Bradford Diocesan Academies Trust (BDAT) to set up the new MAT for North Yorkshire and appointed the BDAT Chief Executive Officer (CEO) interim CEO of the new Trust. A dedicated CEO for Dales was appointed in September 2017 and a Finance Officer shortly afterwards; BDAT continues to support the developing Trust. It was originally in the village of Ainderby Steeple but a new school was built in Morton on Swale to serve the local villages. People who visit comment on the caring, family feel that it has, our children working together to care for each other. We currently have 78 children in 3 classes in the main school. Due to an increase in numbers of children entering the Reception class, we are moving to 4 classes in September. There are 4 classrooms in the main building along with a hall and 2 mobile classrooms, one of which is the preschool building and the other a before/afterschool club, providing wrap around care from 7.45am until 5.30pm on an evening. Our Reception /Year 1 class was newly built in 2016 and was purpose built with an enclosed outdoor play area. We have extensive external grounds including a large playground and field. The preschool was taken over by the school 3 years ago. It was previously committee led by parents and open mornings only. When they were struggling to form a committee and it was going to close, the governors and I decided there was a need in the village for childcare and it was important school took it over as a governor led preschool. We take 2/3/4-year olds on a morning (currently between 15-17) and 3/4-year olds (currently 15/16) on an afternoon. Staff work closely with the Reception and Year 1 staff and pre-covid, children mixed in the outdoor area on an afternoon which helped enable very smooth transition to school. This is an exciting time for a new preschool lead to help move our Early Years provision from good to outstanding, nurturing our children into caring, inquisitive children who are ready for the transition to school. We are part of the Swaledale Alliance and work closely with the schools in the Dales Academies Trust, have strong links with local churches and The Dales School next door.
