You don't have to actually answer the questions. Just read the article straight through, and you'll get the point: 1. Name the five wealthiest people in the world. 2. Name the last five Heisman trophy winners. 3. Name the last five winners of the Miss America. 4. Name ten people who have won the Nobel or Pulitzer Prize. 5. Name the last half dozen Academy Award winners for best actor/actress. The point is, none of us remember the headliners of yesterday. These are no second-rate achievers. They are the best in their fields. But the applause dies. Awards tarnish. Achievements are forgotten. Accolades and certificates are buried with their owners. Here's another quiz. See how you do on this one: 1. List a few teachers who aided your journey through school. 2. Name three friends who have helped you through a difficult time. 3. Name five people who have taught you something worthwhile. 4. Think of a few people who have made you feel appreciated and special. 5. Think of five people you enjoy spending time with. The people who make a difference in your life are not the ones with the most credentials, the most money, or the most awards. They are the ones that care. We cannot hope to change the world on our own but we can change that bit of it which is ours. Every Sunday a man would jog past a woman sitting on the banks of an Oregon lake. One day curiosity got the best of him and he stopped to see what she was doing. He could see she had a trap with some small turtles in it and one turtle was in her lap and she was cleaning its shell. “Why are you doing that?” asked the man. She replied: “turtle shells get covered in algae and it makes it difficult for the turtle to absorb the heat of the sun; if they cannot heat up they die”. The man said: “but there are so many lakes and far more turtles what difference do you think you are making by doing this?” Just as he said this, she finished and she held up the turtle and said, “Ask him.” David Front cover picture, taken by Sandra Apps, features the Brundish “Fete on the Green” on Sunday, 19th July. Open the book is a project to offer Bible stories in schools, churches and other places where children meet. Teams of between four and seven volunteers use a variety of visual aids to present stories in a lively and compelling way. We are establishing a team in this benefice so if you would like to know more then please let me know, but be warned: you must be prepared to have fun. Have your say about the village and its future! What do you think about housing in Wilby? Should there be more? If so what type of housing? What about traffic and transport ? Is this an issue for you and your family? Should we have a Community Speed Watch scheme? Are you happy with the services provided by the District and County Councils such as refuse collection, street cleaning, highways maintenance? Does the Church meet the needs of the community in your view? What about the Village Hall ? Does it lay on activities you support? We are rightly proud of our local school – should it become more involved in the community? What do you want for your village? What is the best thing about living in Wilby? The survey which will be seeking your views on these and other matters will be hand deliv- ered to each house in the village in September and collected two to three weeks later. Do not miss the opportunity to take part in this survey. It is your village! NEW DEVELOPMENT You will have noticed the new development of houses that Orwell Housing Association will be providing in the village. The development includes a mixture of flats and houses which will be available in October, with priority being given to local people and families (conditions apply). Orwell Housing Association is also pleased to be providing three shared ownership houses. If you are interested in these properties you will need to register as soon as possible with Mid-Suffolk District Council via www.gatewaytohomechoice.org.uk . Properties will be advertised shortly. If you are interested in the shared ownership houses or for further information on these properties please contact : Karen Suddes at Orwell Housing Association on 01473 228604 . With tears of joy we bid farewell to our Year 6's as they embark on their high school journeys. We wish everyone in the local community the very best for the summer holidays, and thank you to all who have attended events or helped out in many ways. There are three other goodbyes to mention. Our very long serving governor Celia Drakard of Brundish has stepped down after serving the school for over 20 years - having seen three heads in that time and served on numerous committees, interview panels, inspections, visits and more. Also stepping down from his governors role is Tim Earl of Wilby, after two years including having been chair of our Health & Safety committee.
