This is a wonderful and convenient service offered to EACS and to our community by Parkview Hospital and the Breast Diagnostic Center. Parkview recommends women have an annual mammogram beginning at age 40. Women 35 and older, who are not experiencing any problems with their breasts, can get a screening mammogram on the coach. All participants must have a family physician as the screening report is sent to the physician. For participants that have insurance, their insurance company will be billed. For those that have EACS Group Health Insurance, Mammograms will be considered as a wellness benefit, covered at 100%. Please bring a photo ID and your insurance card. NO ONE will be turned away for inability to pay. Francine’s Friends has funding available and a donation toward the cost of the mammogram is welcome. 2019 screening schedule: March 7 (Thursday) – New Haven Middle School March 22 (Friday) – Leo Jr/Sr High School April 16 (Tuesday) – Woodlan Elementary May 3 (Friday) – Heritage K-12 Campus Appointments may be scheduled in by calling (260) 266-8120. For teachers in grades K-12: District expectations for the use of Canvas in the third quarter of the school year are to continue posting weekly lesson plans/newsletters in Calendar. In grades K-6, the district expectation is to create at least 2 school work assignments, and/or have 1 discussion in your course. In grades 7-12, the district expectation is to create 4 or more assignments and have discussions in courses. At all grade levels, the expectation is to place student resources, such as web links, YouTube clips, documents, etc., into Canvas Pages or Modules. If you have questions, please contact any Tech Coach. 2. For all Primary Teachers: Have you heard of the app Catchy Words AR? Catchy Words is a simple educational Augmented Reality word game. In this game, the player needs to catch floating letters and arrange them in the frame so they make out a word in English, they are scrambled by default. Of course, every set of letters can construct a word, but you need to solve which word is it. This educational game combines movement by being able to collect a letter using the device. Thanks to Holly Talboom at Southwick Elementary for this recommendation! 3. For all teachers: Are you familiar with the IN Computer Science Standards? Code.org® is a nonprofit dedicated to expanding access to computer science in schools and increasing participation by women and underrepresented minorities. Their vision is that every student in every school has the opportunity to learn computer science, just like biology, chemistry or algebra. Code.org provides the leading curriculum for K-12 computer science in the largest school districts in the United States and Code.org also organizes the annual Hour of Code campaign which has engaged 15% of all students in the world. 4. For all teachers: Doodle for Google contest has launched Calling all K-12 artists! The Doodle for Google contest kicked off January 8th and will close on March 18th. This year's theme is "When I grow up, I hope..." Visit doodle4google.com for lesson plans and details on how to enter. A third-grader at Prince Chapman Academy, Athena Rodriguez, was Indiana’s Doodle for Google winner in 2018. 5. For Elementary Teachers: Have you signed up for a Mystery Science Membership? Mystery Science is a curriculum of open-and-go science lessons for kindergarten through fifth grade. It offers minimal prep, engaging videos, hands-on activities, and aligns with the standards. The first year is free for teachers, but will require a paid membership upon renewal. Fun technology fact: Have you ever felt uncomfortable - a little jittery, perhaps - because you forgot your smartphone? Is your smartphone within reach right now? Ninety-one percent of all adults have their mobile phone within arm’s reach every hour of every day, and 75% of Americans bring their phones to the bathroom. Fifty-three percent of American consumers use their smartphones to access search engines at least once a day, and four out of five consumers use smartphones to shop.
