Type of Business/Organization The survey was based on a statistical sample combined by 68 businesses/organizations, which represents the 25.3% of the total 270 businesses/organizations 3 Star Hotel 4 Star Hotel 5 Star Hotel Tourist Village Apartments Total Hotels/Apt initially contacted for the survey (fig. 1). Total number of visitors In the year 2017, a total of 547 sports teams visited Cyprus, in order to train or to participate in a tournament or sports event (fig. 6). Meanwhile, the total number of sport visitors who arrived in Cyprus amounted to 35,529 (fig. 7). Those visitors were part of the abovementioned teams, but also they were individual athletes and spectators who visited Cyprus for training, competing or attending various sports events. The total number of sports visitors for 2017 recorded a growth of 19.8%, compared to 2016. The distribution of the total number of visitors Teams 547 per month, as recorded by the survey for 2017, is presented in figure 7. Following the same trend as in 2016, sports visitors who chose Cyprus for training, participating or attending a sports event, strongly prefer not to visit during the summer, as opposed to the general tourists’ population, who visit Cyprus mainly for summer holidays.
