Welcome to Universität Hamburg – the largest university in this city, one of the biggest in Germany, and a major science and research hub in Europe. Hosting Europe’s most prestigious annual political science conference is a great honour for us. Having the chance to greet so many international scholars from all areas of the discipline and across all career stages is something very special. And, as is well known, third time is a charm! Hamburg is the third German city to host the ECPR’s General Conference. In 2009 it was Potsdam and fifteen years ago it was Marburg. What a good omen for this year’s event. Especially in times of growing political instability, such meetings have an invaluable impact. They are an ideal platform for discussions and debates. Here, new ideas can be exchanged and the co-operation among scholars can be intensified on an international basis. Good to know that internationality is one of Hamburg’s main assets.
