Stitching On State Winter/Spring 2018 Classes and Events Dear Friends, Welcome to our Winter/Spring 2018 session! We are very excited about the selection and quality of the classes we offer and very proud to have such skilled instructors leading our classes. There are project classes, workshops, skill builder classes and Just-For-Fun Lock-ins and clubs. Please join us! You will have a great time, learn something new and make new friends. How fun! First Saturday: The Winter/Spring First Saturday session will begin in January and go through early summer! Watch our emails, website and Facebook page (Facebook.com/StitchingonState) for updates on this sessions' project. Please call the shop to register so we are sure to have a kit ready for you. Sessions are already starting to fill. Have you ever participated in this fun, $5 monthly program? Pay only $5 for the first block. Bring in your completed block to the next First Saturday ( first Saturday of the month) you will get that month’s block for free. These beautiful projects are Terri’s exclusive designs and are not available outside the program. Plus, enjoy First Saturday participant-only discounts. What’s not to love? Scraptacular Part 2! We had so much fun sharing ideas of using fabric scraps to create beautiful quilts during our last scraptacular event that we are doing it again, but this time using half square triangles. Stop in on January 20th during regular store hours to see the many different ways to make half square triangles and see quilts using this basic unit. We will show you the rulers we love, and demo how they can make half squares easier and more accurate. Free patterns will be available when you visit us during this Scraptacular event. The demos will be on going throughout the day, so please plan on stopping in and seeing us at Stitching on State. Mark your calendars to Join us for our 3rd annual Make It Mini, Make It Red Show February 10th - 18th! The more quilts on display the more fun it will be for all. We are looking for quilts under 20 inches square, done in reds (burgundy to bright red) and white (tan to white). You may use any technique and enter as may as you wish. Drop off your beautiful mini quilts at Stitching on State before February 6. We will display the miniature collection February 10 thru February 18, There will be People's Choice voting with prizes. Please plan on joining the fun by bring in a mini quilt to display and by attending our special little quilt show to vote for your favorites. What a great way to celebrate Valentine week! YES! We will be participating in this year's International Quilt Festival at the Donald E Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont April 12-14th. PROJECT CLASSES BERRY EASY TABLE TOPPER Learn a fun and different technique making four patches on this quick & easy table topper. You will also learn the proper techniques when working with blocks that are put on point including the correct way to put the binding on. This table topper is quick to make as gifts or to decorate your own home for everyday or for the Holidays. Skill Level: Beginning Quilter (Basic quilting experience required) Instructor: Darlene Klawinski Session: One 4 hour session Date: Sunday Jan 28 Time: 10:00 am - 2:00 pm Class Fee: $35.00 2 Stitching On State Winter/Spring 2018 Classes and Events START QUILTING Start the new year off learning a new skill and making new friends when you take start quilting at Stitching on State. During the five week class you will learn everything from basic rotary cutting, strip piecing, basic machine quilting, to putting a binding on. You will be working on three small projects. Learn how to make a simple rail fence wall hanging or table topper, a nine patch checker board, then create a beautiful table runner using half square triangles and flying geese.. This is a great class for the beginner as well as any quilter wanting to fine tune their quilting skills. Come join the wonderful world of quilting. Instructor: Terri Linder Class Fee: $85 Sessions: Five 2 1/2 hour sessions Date: Mondays, January 29, February 5, 12, 19, & 26 Time: 9:30am - noon TWISTER SPRING/SUMMER WALL HANGING Make this beautiful Spring/Summer Wreath for your home. Put it on your wall or on your front door either way it will help decorate your home for the season. You will learn how to lay out your pattern, sew your squares together and use the Pinwheel Ruler. NOTE: There is a maximum of 6 students, so sign up early to guarantee your spot in class. Skill level: Confident Beginner Quilter (Basic quilting experience required) Instructor: Darlene Klawinski Session: Two 2 1/2 hour sessions Date: Saturday Feb 3 and Feb 10 Time: 10:00 am – 12:30 pm Class Fee: $40.00 TRADITIONAL HANDWORK CATHEDRAL WINDOWS Learn the technique of traditional cathedral window blocks all done by hand. Great blocks t o create while sitting, relaxing at home or on the go. No machine needed! Learn two different cathedral window blocks, then create a truly unique wall hanging or quilt. Instructor: Fran Row Class Fee: $40 Sessions: Two 3 1/2 hour sessions Dates: Thursday, February 8 & March 1 Time: 1pm - 4:30pm 3 Stitching On State Winter/Spring 2018 Classes and Events IMAGINE (APPLIQUE') Celebrate positive and uplifting words and images in raw edge, fusible applique from the book “Imagine’” by Art To Heart. You pick the project: individual blocks for your hanger, mini quilts, pillows, or festive seasonal banners. Theresa will guide you every step of the way. The lighthearted “Bree” fabric line, as illustrated in the book, is available or we can help with your fabric choice. Skill level: Previous Raw Edge Applique recommended Instructor: Theresa Kennedy Class Fee: $30.00 Sessions: one 4 hour session Dates: Sunday Feb 11th Time: 11 AM- 3PM: NEW YORK BEAUTY Have fun creating an original New York Beauty Quilt. Learn the basics of paper piecing to make this very unique block Your points will be sharp and every piece will fit together perfectly using the paper piecing techniques. Depending on your choice of fabrics, your quilt can be very traditional or a spin on the modern quilt style. Instructor: Karen Upham Class Fee: $40 Session:: Two 3 hour classes Date: Thursday, February 22 & March 8 Time: 1 pm - 4 pm MACHINE STITCHED CATHEDRAL WINDOWS! Please come join me and learn how to make machine stitched Cathedral Windows. This method is an alternative to hand stitched cathedral windows.
