Easy Peasy File Folder Travel Journals

Easy Peasy File Folder Travel Journals

EASY PEASY FILE FOLDER TRAVEL JOURNALS Made by members of the Cincinnati Book Arts Society for an online class August 2020 Amy Crawford Barns Cheerios box, staples, washi tape, duct tape, PVA, copy paper, rubber stamps, ink, a Bic pen, photos, waxed thread 5” x 6 ½” Because of travel restrictions this summer, I traveled local county back roads in search of barns to sketch. In the pockets of this journal are the photos of the various barns and the resulting pen & ink sketches. Jo Diamantes Cancelled File folder, assorted papers, stamps, Tyvek, thread, fabric 9 1/2” x 4 ¾” (closed) I folded a used green file folder to create a pocket on one side. Pamphlet stitched paper on the back for notes. Using stamps, correspondence, words and pictures cut from junk mail to create a book showing some of the changes due to the Pandemic. Strengthened folds with Tyvek before stitching. This is still a work in progress. Created a closure/tie from an old scrap of material. Jo Diamantes Reading Lists in Purple Manila folder, acrylic paints (Quinacridone red, Ultramarie Blue, and Gold), lined notebook paper, sticky back canvas to strengthen spines 4 ½” x 5 1/2 “ I started off with the idea of making a book where I could keep lists of books to be read and books that have already been read. I used half a file folder and some sheets of lined notebook paper from which I cut off the holes as it made the paper fit and look better. The result is two usable signatures and a pocket. The file folder started as a regular plain manila folder to which red acrylic paint was applied. After that dried blue acrylic and some gold were applied and plastic wrap was scrunched on the still wet paint. That was allowed to dry overnight. Two signatures were sewn in, a pocket was made by sewing part of the bottom and a button closure was attached. Judy Dominic It’s Green! File folder, washi tape, various commercial papers stained with coffee, waxed linen, paper clip, mini binder clip, map, Velcro dots 7 3/4” x 4 1/2” (front opens to 9”, back opens to 17 3/4”) It was all about using what I had on hand, down to the day-old brewed coffee. Not sure I will need all those pages for journaling, but I liked how they all went together. I may actually decorate the cover at some point… Judy Dominic MoFA 2016 Pocket folder from the conference, conference paraphernalia (postcards, vendor info, exhibit info, letter of thanks from the organizers), hair elastic 6.6” x 4.5” x .5” (closed), 19” x 11 3/4” high (open) Fond memories of the Missouri Fiber Arts conference which I keynoted, complete with the personal folder! Judy Dominic Travels During COVID-19 2020 File folder, waxed linen, copy paper, colored pencils, markers, ink, washi tape, glue, batting, twist tie, cloth scraps, HMP (handmade paper), postcard, magazine cut-outs, recipe, coffee filter, dental floss, TP and roll, packaging, contact-dyed papers 4 7/8” x 4 7/8” (opens to 17 3/4”) Since we had titled the class as a ‘TRAVEL’ journal, the most traveling I had been doing was in my immediate surroundings, so I had a bit of fun with it. I did forget about the laundry room! Marguerite Katchen Leftovers Bristol board, various papers, waxed linen thread, elastic 3" x 4.5” This is the journal I made 8/8 with the CBAS study group. I used white Bristol Board, instead of a file folder. This caused the book to be more narrow than one made with a file folder would have been. I folded the Bristol Board to make pockets and sewed the end pieces together with blue waxed linen thread so the last pockets would close. The other pockets are finished with orange linen thread which also made the pamplet stitch fastening for the signatures. The bottom pocket fold went with the grain of the Bristol Board but the folds for the pages did not. Therefore, even when pressed under 20 lb weight, the book tends to spring open. An orange piece of elastic was used to keep the book closed. The front is decorated with scraps of paper. It became a dos-a-dos structure. Front signatures are 24 lb. Neenah Classic Crest. The back signature is leftover 140 lb watercolor paper. Carolyn Stewart Memories of St Francis 1/2 file folder, stamp pads, UHU glue stick, decorative papers, travel folders, journal papers sewn with strong thread 3.5” x 4.5” I go to Italy whenever I can and would live there if I could only learn the language well enough to survive. The small hill towns of Tuscany are my favorites. Carolyn Stewart Notebook File folder, paper clips, acrylic paints, decorative papers, UHU glue stick, notebook paper. 4 1/2” x 6 1/2” It’s always nice to have a little notebook to jot down things like grocery lists, errands, things you need to remember while you’re out and about. And it’s even better if it has pockets for coupons or to keep sales slips, etc. Carolyn Stewart Travel folder #1 File folder, UHU glue stick, post cards, decorative papers, acrylic paints 4 1/2” x 6 1/2” This little folder is designed to carry important travel documents like passport, boarding pass and tickets, schedules, city maps, and daily journal and is easy to slip into purse or carry on bags. .
