There are so many exciting things planned for this year that make me proud to be Mayor of McHenry. It’s hard to believe that this is the 3rd year of the McHenry ShamRocks the Fox St. Patrick’s Day Celebration. This year the event will be held on Saturday, March 14th and Sunday, March 15th. The weekend will kick off with the Shamrock Shuffle 5k, followed by the dyeing of the Fox River and St. Patrick’s Day Parade on Saturday, and close with fireworks from Miller Point on Sunday evening. In between, enjoy live music, beer, and children’s activities on Miller Point during both days. Visit www.visitmchenrycounty.com/ Shamrocksthefox for a detailed schedule. Thursday night City Band Concerts and Farmers Market begin in May, Green Street Cruise Nights start Monday, June 8th, and the McHenry Downtown Business Association Taste of Summer takes place on Saturday, June 13th, as does the annual Kiwanis Soap Box Derby. New in 2020 is the 1st R.I.S.E. Concert. My beautiful wife Amber and I started the R.I.S.E. Up Foundation as a means to raise funds for the development of family-oriented projects that may not otherwise be able to be completed in the community. The first concert, to be held Friday, June 19th and Saturday, June 20th, will be highlighted by country music stars Brantley Gilbert and the Eli Young Band on Saturday, June 20th. For us Bear fans, former Bear Zach Miller will also be debuting his musical talent. For more information about attending this event, or supporting the R.I.S.E. Up Foundation, visit www.riseupfoundationmchenry.org. July and August are highlighted by the always rockin’ McHenry Fiesta Days music weekend July 9th -12th and the McHenry Rotary Blues, Brews, and BBQ, presented by D.C. Cobbs, August 14th – 16th. Visit www.mchenryfiestadays.com and www.mrbbb.com for more information on these events. One important event change that I wanted to mention is that the annual Independence Day Fireworks celebration will be taking place the evening of Sunday, July 12th, to close out Fiesta Days Music weekend. This change was made in an effort to tie into the family oriented activities that take place on the Sunday of Fiesta Days Music weekend, as well as to get a bigger “bang” for our buck with those companies that put on the firework shows. There are so many great activities going on in McHenry this summer that my calendar is already FULL. I look forward to seeing you around town!
