The Lane Train honored… OF Lane Thomas was named on Thursday as a Texas League Postseason All-Star, serving as Springfield’s representative on the exclusive roster that recognizes the top eight position players and six pitchers from throughout the league. The 22 year old had a terrific season in Springfield before being promoted to AAA-Memphis on 7/27, hitting .260 with a team-best 22 home runs and 67 RBIs while adding 16 doubles and 13 steals in 100 Double-A games. Just 18 years old, Herrera has done nothing but hit in rookie ball so far, batting .348 (39x112) with a homer and 25 RBIs in 28 games in the GCL this year, after being named a Baseball America Dominican Summer League All-Star last season when he hit .335 (57x170) with a home run, 15 doubles and 27 RBIs in 49 games for the DSL Cardinals last year. Born on 6/1/2000, he becomes the first-ever player born in the 21st century to suit up for Springfield. He was signed by St. Louis on 7/7/16 as a 16 year old, after being named the MVP of the U16 Pan Am Baseball Championship earlier that year.
