20/05/1998 Gear up for ntv7's music bash Sajahan Waheed THE country's newest terrestrial TV station, ntv7, airs its first concert, Konsert Seceria Pelangi - Somewhere Over The Rainbow, on Friday at 8.30pm. The 90-minute show, to be telecast "live" from the station's Studio One in Shah Alam, is in conjunction with the station's official launch by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Mahathir Mohamad. Fourteen popular acts from here and other parts of Asia will be featured in the show. The Malaysian artistes are Nora, Ning Baizura, Siti Nurhaliza, Jay Jay, Awie, Erra Fazira, KRU and Raihan. The international acts comprise Mehnaz from India, Mayang Sari (Indonesia), Jeremie (Philippines), Mavis Hee (Singapore), Chiu Hai Zheng (Taiwan) and popular group Carabao (Thailand). The songs you can expect include Oh! La! La! (KRU), Games (Mavis Hee), Kau Dan Aku (Ning Baizura), Lumapit Ka (Jeremie), Puji Pujian (Raihan), Ratuku (Awie), Breathless (Chiu Hai Zeng), Cinta Abadi (Erra Fazira), Made In Thailand (Carabao), Ku Ingin (Mayang Sari), Joget Angan Tak Sudah (Jay Jay), Kehadiranmu (Nora), Cindai (Siti Nurhaliza) and I Feel Good (Mehnaz). There will also be a special performance by 30 students from Sekolah Rendah Sri Kuala Lumpur, and three young ballerinas from The Ballet Studio and The Federal Academy Of Ballet. They will sing Quek Mambo, and Somewhere Over The Rainbow, originally sung by Judy Garland in the movie The Wizard Of Oz. However, for this concert, the song will be delivered in Bahasa Malaysia with lyrics by Habsah Hassan. "We are sparing no effort in bringing in these foreign acts as we want to feature the best in entertainment," said the station's chief executive officer, Shazalli Ramly. The event will be compered by actor Rosyam Nor, Hairie Othman and Aisha Gill. Shazalli said the station would also air a special news bulletin at 8pm on Friday, through which viewers would have a chance to know more about ntv7, its objectives and the people involved in the news team. At 10pm (immediately after the concert), the station will screen an hour-long musical, Smash Hits Party 97, which will, among others, feature international stars Celine Dion, Spice Girls, Janet Jackson and Backstreet Boys. The Konsert Seceria Pelangi will mark the debut of actor Hairie Othman as compere. "This is something new to me. I am very excited about the whole thing," he says. "In fact, I've always wanted to host a show but never received an offer." In conjunction with the concert and official launch, the station is running a contest titled "Peraduan Seceria Pelangi" until Friday.
