UTRGV’s (1-0) lead over Corpus Christi (1-0) in the showdown standings is now 15-9. Groedem took control of the loose ball after the Islanders misplayed a goal kick and found the back of the net for her first-career goal and the game-winner. The scoring started midway through the first half, junior Shentatious Knox connected with sophomore Anna Torslov outside of the box as Torslov knocked it passed Kennedy Stelling in the 24th minute for the 1-0 lead. Corpus Christi got its lone goal from Maggie Murray in the 55th minute, which tied the match at 1-1 before going into overtime. Redshirt junior Maile Lundardi (1-0) made four saves in the match to earn the win. UTRGV outshot Corpus Christi 11-6 and 8-5 on goal. The match remained scoreless until the 77th minute, when Seattle U’s (11-7-2, 6-1-1 WAC) Lauren Brown scored her first goal of the season making it 1-0. UTRGV (9-7-2, 3-3-1 WAC) put the pressure on Seattle U with the clock winding down as a header from senior goal keeper Kinga Szemik was saved by Seattle U goal keeper Madison WaguesPack to close out the match. Szemik finished the match with six saves while Waguespack three saves. Sophomore Emily Zapata recorded a match-high four shots with one on goal.
