Geography-Continents

Geography – Wednesday 24th February In geography this half term we will be learning about where animals come from including finding out about all 7 continents and their climates. Continents – Our world is divided into land and sea. The blue parts on the map below are the seas and oceans. The coloured parts are the land and this is split into 7 continents which are made up of different countries within them. We live in England (the country) and Europe (the continent). If you can, head to this BBC website to watch a video and do a quiz! https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/articles/zw7gsk7 The 7 continents are Asia, Africa, North America, South America, Antarctica, Europe and Australia (although sometimes this is called Oceania). Then, watch the videos about each continent here: Europe - https://www.bbc.co.uk/teach/class-clips- video/pshe-eyfs-ks1-go-jetters-continent-of- europe/zvsd47h Africa - https://www.bbc.co.uk/teach/class-clips- video/pshe-eyfs-ks1-go-jetters-continent-of- africa/zfv7d6f North America - https://www.bbc.co.uk/teach/class- clips-video/pshe-eyfs-ks1-go-jetters-continent-of-north- america/zdqw92p South America - https://www.bbc.co.uk/teach/class- clips-video/pshe-eyfs-ks1-go-jetters-continent-of-south- america/zjrbf4j Antarctica - https://www.bbc.co.uk/teach/class-clips- video/pshe-eyfs-ks1-go-jetters-continent-of- antarctica/zj9c382 Asia - https://www.bbc.co.uk/teach/class-clips- video/pshe-eyfs-ks1-go-jetters-continent-of-asia/zfpt2sg Oceania - https://www.bbc.co.uk/teach/class-clips- video/pshe-eyfs-ks1-go-jetters-continent-of- oceania/zfyst39 Activity 1: Have a look at the world map below and explore it with your adult. If you have a bigger world map, atlas or access to google maps you may want to explore that instead. What can you see? Can you have a go at saying the names of the continents that are there? Can you find Europe – this is the continent we live on? Can you see the UK? Keep looking and try to remember where each of the continents are. Your adult could cover the names up one at a time and see if you can remember them. Here’s a really catchy song to help you remember the names of all 7 continents! Your teachers LOVE this song and it goes around and around in our heads! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K6DSMZ8b3LE Activity 2: Without peeking, have a go at labelling the 7 continents on this map. (Hint: Don’t forget to use a capital letter for each one!) .
