Ray joined the Association of Cricket Umpires & Scorers in 1971 and has officiated regularly ever since as an umpire and scorer, becoming a top recreational umpire in the country, having umpired in County 2nds, Minor Counties, ECB, Combined Services, University, Southern League and Hampshire League. Ray has toured and officiated in many countries throughout the world. Since 1976 he has been an inspirational tutor to hundreds of umpires and scorers within Hampshire and the Combined Services and led the ICC Europe Development Programme. Ray founded the South Coast Panel and served as Chairman, Treasurer, Trainer and Registration Officer on Regional Committees for Combined Services, leagues and officials organisations. He has been a physiotherapist for Hampshire CCC, a Tournament Referee for ICC Europe, an accredited ECB Association of Cricket Officials (ECBACO) verifier and still serves on many local and national committees. Ray’s integrity, professionalism and overall contribution to officiating, on and off the field, have been recognised by Honorary Life Memberships of both the South Coast Panel and the ECBACO." CHRIS WESTBROOK: "Chris has been involved with Hursley Park Cricket Club for 61 years since first playing for the club at 13 years old. He has captained the 1st XI to National Village glory at Lord’s and held all the major administrative roles at the club as well as being a committee member for over 50 years. It is impossible to sum up his immeasurable contribution to the club, cricket in general and the literally thousands of people and cricketers who Chris has influenced over the years, but here are a few highlights: − he is the first at the club and last to leave; − prepared wickets and the ground and carried out every conceivable task around the ground and club house; − fought legal battles on behalf of the club; − dealt with death, retirement and various difficult matters on behalf of the club; − headed up the groundstaff and is a qualified Pitch Advisor and Association of Cricket Groundsmen member; − brought on youngsters including the Hampshire wicket keeper Adi Aymes and Chris Tremlett, Ashes winner in Australia; − raised funds for the club running into the hundreds of thousands and helped build a new pavilion. Chris has an incredible work ethic and his list of contacts for getting things done, ability to resource whatever is needed, insistence on getting value for money and to desire to see the club prosper has been incredible." TONY WHARTON: "Tony has worked tirelessly for both the club and local cricket in general over the last 30 plus years. Having previously played for Langley Manor and New Milton, Tony joined Lymington from Trojans in 1986. Since then he has played for all four Saturday sides and still turns out for the occasional friendly fixture. More importantly though has been his overall contribution to the Club having served as both Chairman and Treasurer, a role he still carries out. He has also been ever present helping and coaching our young cricketers and on a Saturday has been first team manager and scorer. He helps with the bar and carries out any other necessary club duties. He was made a life member of the club in 2014, a much-deserved recognition of his service. Over and above his work at Lymington, Tony has been Treasurer of the Southern League and is currently President and former Chairman of South Hampshire Indoor Cricket League and is Vice Chairman of the New Forest Junior Cricket Association. In summary, Tony would be a worthy recipient of this award for his tremendous contribution to local cricket."
