Minutes of the Cornish Language Partnership meeting held on Monday 11 th March 2013 from 10am-12.30pm in 2N:03, New County Hall, Truro Present: Maureen Pierce, Kesva an Taves Kernewek Dee Brotherton, Agan Tavas (Deputy) Joan Symons, (Chair) Jan Lobb, Cussel an Tavaz Kernuak Esther Johns, Gorsedh Kernow Bert Biscoe, Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Economic Forum Roger Holmes, Cornwall Association of Local Councils Loveday Jenkin, Kowethas an Yeth Kernewek Bill Glanville, Old Cornwall Society Attending: Nev Meek, Management group Rael Harvey, Acquisition Group Jenefer Lowe, Development Manager Sam Rogerson, Administrator Action 1. Apologies and declarations of interest 2. Minutes Partnership meeting 7th December September 2012 The minutes of the Partnership meeting held on Friday 7 th December were agreed as a true and accurate record. 3. Matters Arising 6.3 EuroTalk EuroTalk had invited the CLP to participate in the production of an app, which would include 4500 source words. The terms offered were the same as the previous work performed by the MAGA office for EuroTalk, in which only expenses for would be incurred. 8.1 Agan Tavas It was announced that there were 3-5 people regularly attending the new post 4 th grade class. 4. Education A query was raised as to when the education officers would be attending the evening classes. It was noted that some classes had received visits, but the remainder had still to be 1 scheduled. Teacher training for fluent students would be offered during the summer 2013 ahead of the new September term. There was discussion of the offer to schools and current discussions around this. It was noted that CC support in notifying schools of the importance of Cornish would assist the strategy for engaging with individual schools. 5.5 Agan Tavas Regarding the literature award announced at the lst meeting, it was noted that Tte closing date would be 1 st October 2013 and an award ceremony would be held in February 2014. The award would be for new pieces of literature and new translations. 4. Work Programme 2013/14 MAGA has been invited to provide copy for online packet and Cornish Guardian newspapers, along with continuing the articles for Cornwall Today and MyCornwall. The MAGA 2013 conference would be confirmed shortly with approval from the Partnership. The draft bid to government would be released to the Partnership in June for return to central government in early Autumn There as discussion over staffing. It was noted that the recommendation was that the replacement post would focus on marketing. The post could well be part-time, but this would be confirmed once the budgets were clear. There was a suggestion that CC be focused on as a key public body in the advocacy plan. Suggestions were made for the inclusion of Cornish in the induction process for new members. It was suggested that the Partnership press for all members’ business cards to be printed bilingually, instead of individuals having to request the service. 5. Reports 5.1 Financial report Monitoring sheets would be sent after the meeting. JL 5.2 Manager’s report An agreement was reached that a post would be advertised with a marketing bias, lasting until March 2014. An invitation was going out to language groups and to attend the first day of the Review board meeting on Monday 13 th May 2 to present findings on issues raised. There was a suggestion for MAGA to attend the Expo West event next at the Royal Cornwall showground and it was agreed to add this to the list of events to be looked at. It was noted that CC might not attend the Royal Cornwall Show in 2013, and there were suggestions made that the use of the building could be investigated for the cultural sector, although there were concerns raised that the operating fees could be considerable. 5.4 Working Group reports Acquisition The chair reported on a successful Tregedna weekend, notwithstanding a few problems on the accommodation and catering side which would be addressed for next year. It was requested that thanks be noted to Pol Hodge, who was instrumental in the success of Tregedna and Sarah Tresidder who helped behind the scenes. A query regarding the booking status of the Skol Uhel weekend was raised; Truro High School would be contacted for 2014 but arrangements for 2013 were still in hand. 5.5 Member organisation reports Agan Tavas Booking forms for the Redruth language weekend on 23 rd March were now available from Dee Brotherton and entry forms for the new literature award were also available. Kowethas an Yeth Kernewek The An Gannas publication was looking to upgrade the reach of the publication, and would be approaching MAGA for assistance. Dydh Stoffya & Family Day to be held at the Sandy Lodge Hotel, Newquay. KYK to provide a new award for Holyer an Gof in the Cornish language section. Kesva New members of the board met for the first time at the Kesva AGM in February. The publication ‘Hwedhlow nowyth ha koth’ is now in print and available in both KK and SWF. Future publications would be professionalised for print quality in order to compete in bookshops. Gorsedh It was announced that Rod Lyon would like to stand down from the Partnership and the Gorsedh was seeking a replacement. 3 6. Any Other Business No management board applications had been received. It was noted that both J Davey and L Rule had agreed to stand again and it was recommended that the Partnership re-appoint them.
