This year the forum was a virtual Zoom meeting. Two Georgia state senators and six state representatives participated in the 2021 Legislative Senior Issues Forum. The following Cobb Legislators responded to questions from Cobb Seniors on a Zoom video call. Senators Kay Kirkpatrick and Michael Rhett. Representatives Erick Allen, Teri Anulewicz, Roger Bruce, Sharon Cooper, David Wilkerson, and Mary Frances Williams joined the Zoom call Irene Barton, Executive director of Cobb Collaborative was the moderator. There were also several Cobb County Senior Services executives in attendance. Many topics were discussed with the most concerns expressed: The need for affordable housing in Cobb for seniors with limited incomes Current problems around the functioning of nursing homes Questions on how Federal money coming to the state will be allocated to benefit seniors. Importance of senior citizen engagement to bring about legislative action Changes in Georgia voting laws and effects on future elections The Zoom participants were appreciative of the nearly two hours the legislators gave to answering their questions. They also found that listening to the dialogue between the lawmakers as they spoke to each other gave them greater insight into how the complicated legislative process works in Georgia state government.
