Methodologies and Intelligent Systems for Technology Enhanced Learning

Advances in Intelligent Systems and Computing Volume 374 Series editor Janusz Kacprzyk, Polish Academy of Sciences, Warsaw, Poland e-mail: [email protected] About this Series The series “Advances in Intelligent Systems and Computing” contains publications on theory, applications, and design methods of Intelligent Systems and Intelligent Computing. Virtually all disciplines such as engineering, natural sciences, computer and information science, ICT, eco- nomics, business, e-commerce, environment, healthcare, life science are covered. The list of top- ics spans all the areas of modern intelligent systems and computing. The publications within “Advances in Intelligent Systems and Computing” are primarily textbooks and proceedings of important conferences, symposia and congresses. They cover sig- nificant recent developments in the field, both of a foundational and applicable character. An important characteristic feature of the series is the short publication time and world-wide distri- bution. This permits a rapid and broad dissemination of research results. Knowledge societies offer significant opportunities for new techniques and applications, especially in the fields of education and learning. Technology Enhanced Learning (TEL) provides knowledge processing technologies to support learning activities in knowledge societies. The role of intelligent systems, rooted in Artificial Intelligence (AI), has become increasingly relevant to shape TEL for knowledge societies. However, AI-based technology alone is clearly not sufficient for improving the learning experience. Design methodologies that are based on evidence and involve end users are essential ingredients as well. Stronger with them, AI-based TEL can cater to its learners’ tasks and, at the same time, support learning while per- forming tasks. In brief, we believe that it is the masterful combination of evidence, users and AI that can allow TEL to provide an enhanced learning experience. The 2nd MIS4TEL conference will build on the experience matured within the 1st MIS4TEL conference as well as a series of evidence based TEL workshops: ebTEL, ebuTEL & iTEL. The conference and these proceedings bring together researchers and developers from industry and the academic world to report on the latest AI-based scientific re- search and advances as well as empirical methodologies for TEL. This volume presents all papers that were accepted for MIS4TEL 2015. All under- went a peer-review selection: each paper was assessed by at least two different review- ers, from an international panel composed of about 60 members of 14 countries. The program of mis4TEL counts 11 contributions from diverse countries such as Colombia, Italy, Malaysia, Portugal and Spain. The quality of papers was on average good, with an acceptance rate of approximately 75%. Last but not least, we would like to thank all the contributing authors, reviewers and sponsors (Telefónica Digital, Indra, INSA - Ingeniería de Software Avanzado S.A (IBM), IEEE Systems Man and Cybernetics Society Spain, AEPIA Asociación Es- pañola para la Inteligencia Artificial, APPIA Associação Portuguesa Para a Inteligência Artificial, CNRS Centre national de la recherché scientifique and STELLAR, as well as VI Preface the members of the Program Committee, of the Organising Committee for their hard and highly valuable work. The work of all such people crucially contributed to the success of mis4TEL’15.
