(146*'#%#&'/+%5'55+10 JEXPO-2018 INTRODUCTION The Polytechnic Education in our State was introduced immediately after independence. To look after the academic activities of polytechnic education, ‘State Council for Engineering & Technical Education’ was set-up as a Government out¿ t by an executive order. The Council was a part of the Chief Inspectorate of Technical Education and subsequently of the Directorate of Technical Education. West Bengal State Council of Technical and Vocational Education and Skill Development was formed as a Statutory Body under the West Bengal Act XXVI of 2013. West Bengal State Council of Technical and Vocational Education and Skill Development (Technical Education Division) has various activities for conducting a number of courses at Diploma, Post Diploma, Certi¿ cate, Advanced Certi¿ cate, Short Term Vocational Training, Commercial Education level besides monitoring and af¿ liating the academic institutions conducting these courses and development of curricula for the purpose. The Council also advises Government in respect of Technical Education for the areas mentioned above. Apart from aforesaid activities, the Council also conducts entrance examination and prepares merit lists for admission of students to Diploma Courses in Engineering/ Technology/ Architecture/ Pharmacy etc. in the Polytechnics of the State under its af¿ liation. ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA FOR APPLICANTS a) Citizenship Must be an Indian Citizen. b) Quali¿ cation Must have passed the Secondary (Madhyamik) Examination of the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education or its equivalent examination with English, Physical Science/Science and Mathematics among others as subjects securing at least 35% marks (no rounding up) in aggregate as per AICTE norms excluding the marks of the subject taken as additional. Candidates appearing in the Secondary (Madhyamik) Examination of the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education or its equivalent examination in 2018 with English, Physical Science/Science and Mathematics among others as subjects may also apply. However, conforming to the benchmark of 35% marks (no rounding up as per AICTE norms) in aggregate excluding the marks of the subject taken as additional, is a must, failing which candidature is liable to be cancelled even after selection in JEXPO-2018. c) Age Should not be born after 01.07.2003 and there is no upper age limit. SYLLABUS Latest revised syllabus on Mathematics and Physical Science upto Class X under West Bengal Board of Secondary Education (WBBSE) shall be followed for JEXPO–2018. Topic-wise syllabus is given below: ¾ Mathematics : Real Numbers, Laws of Indices, Graph, Co-ordinate Geometry - Distance Formula, Linear Simultaneous Equations, Properties of Parallelogram, Polynomial, Factorisation, Transversal & Mid-Point Theorem, Pro¿ t & Loss, Statistics, Theorems on Area, Construction of a Parallelogram whose measurement of one angle is given and equal in area of a Triangle, Construction of a Triangle equal in area of a quadrilateral, Area & Perimeter of Triangle & Quadrilateral shaped region, Circumference of Circle, Theorems on concurrence, Area of circular region, Co-ordinate Geometry - Internal and External Division of Straight Line Segment, Co-ordinate Geometry - Area of Triangular Region, Logarithm. 1 JEXPO-2018 Quadratic Equations with one variable, Simple Interest, Theorems related to circle, Rectangular Parallelopiped or Cuboid, Ratio and Proportion, Compound Interest and Uniform Rate of Increase or Decrease, Theorems related to Angles in a Circle, Right Circular Cylinder, Quadratic Surd, Theorems related to Cyclic Quadrilateral, Construction of circumcircle and incircle of a triangle, Sphere, Variation, Partnership Business, Theorems related to Tangent to a Circle, Right Circular Cone, Similarity, Construction of tangent to a circle, Real life Problems related to different Solid Objects, Trigonometry - Concept of Measurment of Angle, Construction - Determination of Mean Proportional, Pythagoras Theorem, Trigonometric Ratios and Trigonometric Identities, Trigonometric Ratios of Complementrary angle, Application of Trigonometric Ratios - Heights & Distances, Statistics - Mean, Median, Ogive, Mode and Numerical Aptitude. ¾Physical Science : Measurement, Force & Motion, Atomic Structure, Mole Concept, Matter - Structure and Properties, Solution, Acids, Bases & Salts, Work, Power & Energy, Sound, Heat, Separation of Components of Mixtures, Water. Concerns about our Environment, Behaviour of Gases, Light, Periodic Table and Periodicity of the Properties of Elements, Ionic and Covalent Bonding, Chemical Calculations, Thermal Phenomena, Current Electricity, Electricity and Chemical Reactions, Inorganic Chemistry in the Laboratory and in Industry, Metallurgy, Atomic Nucleus, Organic Chemistry and General Awareness. APPLICATION PROCEDURE The prescribed printed OMR Application Form along with Information Brochure for JEXPO–2018 can be purchased from the Polytechnics as listed in this booklet (under ‘Admission’ section) and some selected ITIs, on CASH payment of Rs. 500/- (Rs. 250/- for valid Kanyashree enrolees) from 29th January, 2018 to 5th March, 2018 on all working days except for ‘SUNDAY’s and ‘GAZETTED HOLIDAY’s [between 11.00 a.m. & 4.00 p.m. on Monday to Friday and between 11.00 a.m. & 1.00 p.m. on Saturday]. Also, there will be provision to submit Application Form online in the website www.webscte.org (or in any other website as per announcement later). Fee for Online Application is Rs. 450/- (Rs. 225/- for valid Kanyashree enrolees). Procedure of online submission of application and deposition of application fee shall be noti¿ ed in the Council’s website www.webscte.org (or in any other website as per announcement later). INSTRUCTIONS FOR FILLING-UP OF APPLICATION FORM Application Form will have to be ¿ lled-in properly in observance of the instructions explained below in consultation with the sample section of the application form given in this brochure. Under no circumstances, any subsequent request for change in information, furnished by the candidate in the OMR Application Form, shall be entertained. Special care on the part of candidates should be taken to prevent such error of omission and commission. Council is not liable for refusal of admission to a candidate by the Institutes from taking ¿ nal admission even after getting allotment for wrong submission of information by the candidate. If any difference of information furnished by the candidate in the OMR Application Form and that furnished by the candidate at the time of counseling or thereafter is detected, it shall be treated as a case of furnishing false information on the part of the candidate and will result in cancellation of candidature. It is to be noted that detection of anomaly in respect of admission eligibility criteria at any stage (admission or registration or even afterwards) shall automatically cancel the candidature and no claim shall be entertained by the Council. 2 JEXPO-2018 Please note the followings at the time of ¿ lling-up the OMR Application Form – 1. Name of the candidate to be ¿ lled-up by leaving one box blank between ¿ rst name, middle name and surname and ¿ ll-up the corresponding oval. Please refer Admit Card or Certi¿ cate of Secondary (Madhyamik) or equivalent examination. 2. Specify whether seeking admission under Tution Fee Waiver (TFW) Scheme – Yes / No. 3. Date of Birth to be ¿ lled-up in the way shown and ¿ ll-up the corresponding oval. Please refer Admit Card or Certi¿ cate of Secondary (Madhyamik) or equivalent examination. 4. Darken the corresponding oval related to Gender, whether Male or Female. 5. Specify Nationality by darkening the corresponding oval. 6. Valid Kanyashree Enrolee writes their Enrolment No. 7. Please write your Aadhaar Card No., if available. 8. Specify whether ward of Ex-Serviceman died in action – Yes / No. 9. Darken the corresponding oval to the candidate’s State of Origin – West Bengal or other state. 10. a) Darken the corresponding oval related to category whether General, SC, ST, OBC-A or OBC-B. Candidates of other states should opt for ‘General’ category only. Otherwise, if allotted any seat under reserved category, admission/registration will not be allowed. b) Specify the date of issue of SC / ST / OBC-A / OBC-B certi¿ cate, if required. c) Please note that candidates appearing from other states will be treated as ‘General’ candidates only. 11. a) Darken the corresponding oval according to candidate’s “Physically Challenged (Handicapped)” status, b) Specify the date of issue of physically challenged (Handicapped) certi¿ cate, if required. 12. Specify whether Land Loser or not by darkening the corresponding oval –Yes / No. 13. Specify Zone Code of your ¿ rst and second choices after consulting the “Zone of Examination” given in this brochure and darken the corresponding oval. 14. Specify the Roll Number of Madhyamik/equivalent Examination. The candidates, who will appear in the Secondary (Madhyamik) Examination of the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education or its equivalent Examination in 2018. Please note, production of original marksheet is mandatory at the time of admission. 15.
