DRURY WATER CARRIERS NORTH RICHMOND Greg Jones It is with a great sense of satisfaction that I write this report sharing our highlights as a Club from the past season. A season that presented its own unique challenges in the CoVID climate which saw the season start a month later than usual and was played under a level of uncertainty – especially in the early rounds, and end with senior competition semis and finals unable to be played due to flooding. This season we fielded 8 teams from 2nd grade to under 10s, with our 2nd grade team finishing as minor premiers and premiers as the rain played havoc with the semi and final weekends. We should be proud of the fact that most of this side played at least some of their junior cricket with our club. Our teams across the junior competitions performed well even though none played semi-finals. While across the club there are a number of players who will be recognised for their individual performances at Club and Association level – all of whom are acknowledged later in the yearbook – cricket is a team game with everyone contributing in some way to their team’s success. I’d like to thank you all for your contributions to your team and to the Club during the season. I’d like to thank all Parents and Carers for getting our junior players to training and to games, and for your support both from the sideline and behind the scenes. In getting around games this season it’s been nice to see the level of support each of our junior teams have had from Parents staying to watch and support. I’d like to thank our team captains, coaches, managers and scorers for your time and effort in ensuring the season ran smoothly ,and special thanks to Rob Waddington who again this season had the role of Turnbull Oval Curator and ensured each week the best possible turf wicket was prepared for play on what many see as the best turf ground in the Association. Finally, thank you to each and every member of the Club committee and those who give freely of their time to attend our meetings to ensure we function effectively and efficiently. As our Club grows, so too does the need for additional people to be involved in the running of the Club. We meet on the second Monday each month – watch our Facebook page for meeting dates and feel free to come along and become involved. We have already started to plan for next season – the Clubs 118th and look forward to seeing you again in 2021-22. A great start to the season, our Juniors and Seniors warm up match at Turnbull Oval. Once again thanks to Peter for running this for us each week, and we look forward to seeing these kids coming through our Junior teams over the coming years. Coach: John Bampton The team was a very young team playing their first year of cricket. While only winning the one game the team was very competitive and had numerous close games. Watching the improvement each week was a real thrill and coaching the kids was great fun. Thanks ki season and play U/10’s again next year where you will all improve even further. Also, thanks to all the parents, without you kids sport can be difficult, everyone was very helpful and full of positive encouragement, which made my job easy. Special mention to Trina for scoring and Grant for help umpiring, much appreciated. Jack – Top run scorer for the team and was a good fast bowler and fielder as well. Loved watching to signals to Darcy at keeper for when you were bowling a slow/spinner. Ruby – Really improved over the year and started batting through the innings without losing her wicket regularly. Unique bowling action when on line was very difficult to play. Keep practising with your brothers and you’ll have a great year next season. Wyatt – Uber enthusiastic and was a great all round cricketer. Will slay them next year! Xavier – Really determined and by the end of the year showed a great batting technique. I think he will go on to be a really good batsmen. Keep practising! Darcy – Great keeper and awesome batting technique. Had the highest score for team right at the end of the season. Will blitz them next year. Thomas B – Bowled and fielded well and his batting improved as the year went on when he started to value his wicket and got behind the ball. Great to see him bat through his balls without losing his wicket a few times late in the season. Big lad will be a great fast bowler and ball striker. Thomas G – Excellent bowling action and was the top wicket taker for the year. Solid bat and his running between wickets improved as the year went on. Going to be a good cricketer Evangeline – Improved as the year went on and played with a lot of emotion. Loved watching the two girls bat together as they really started to click and were determined to score a lot of runs. Will go even better next year. Hamish – Only played a couple games as it clashed with Baseball. Great all round cricketer who would be one of the best in U/11s next year if he was to play.
