Sponsored by the Dallas Division of the AHA, the event series leads up to an annual fine wine auction and celebrity chef dinner. This culminating black-tie gala event is the largest of its kind, making it the number one fundraising gala in the nation for the American Heart Association. Proceeds from Côtes du Coeur go directly to the AHA for cardiovascular research and heart health educational programs both locally and nationwide. During its 24-year history, Côtes du Coeur has attracted more than 21,000 attendees and has raised more than $27 million. Côtes du Coeur hosts approximately 1,200 business and wine industry leaders, community philanthropists, wine collectors and physicians. Led by renowned Dallas chef Richard Chamberlain, a team of 16 acclaimed chefs invite the guests to enjoy selections from a boldly unique tasting menu accompanied by wine pairings created from the cellars of 32 elite wineries. Attendees experience multi-course fine dining designed to showcase specific wine varietals dish-by- dish. The quality of the food and wine is a key differentiator for Côtes du Coeur. The gala also features a live auction of one-of- a-kind experience-packages and a silent auction of more than 2,000 wines—the largest fine wine auction in the Southwest. Momentum for the spring gala builds during a series of smaller pre-parties and functions. Each pre-gala function aligns with Côtes du Coeur’s focus on fine wines, fine dining and the mission of the AHA “build healthier lives, free of heart disease and stroke.” Each year at Côtes du Coeur, we present the prestigious Tête du Cuvée – “Best of the Best” – Award to a winery or individual in the wine industry for outstanding achievements in winemaking and efforts to promote a healthy lifestyle in compliance with the American Heart Association guidelines. The 2015 Tête du Cuvée award is presented to Regina Martinelli of Martinelli Winery. The American Heart Association is the nation’s oldest and largest voluntary health organization dedicated to “building healthier lives, free of cardiovascular diseases and stroke.” These diseases and all other cardiovascular diseases claim nearly 870,000 lives a year. Each year we invest in pioneering research, professional and public education, advocacy and community service programs to help all Americans live longer, healthier lives. 3 CÔtes du Coeur Message from Kate Rose Marquez 2015 Côtes du Coeur Chair Welcome to CÔtes du Coeur – an evening of fine wines and exquisite epicurean delights! An evening when Dallas’ celebrated chefs pair perfectly with outstanding wineries to advance the mission of The American Heart Association. The mission of The American Heart Association is clear: “to build healthier lives free of cardiovascular disease and stroke.” The way to affect that mission is through innovative research, strong public health policies, and lifesaving education for those at risk for heart disease and stroke. Who is at risk? One in three people in the U.S. will die of heart disease. One in three. Look at your table this evening – one third of you gathered around that gorgeous tablescape will die of heart disease. But you don’t have to. Eighty percent of heart disease is preventable. There are simple steps you can take to affect positive change and rewrite your story. Check out page 25 for life changing and lifesaving information. In fact, rip that page out of this catalog and tape it to your bathroom mirror. Fighting heart disease is personal and powerful. You may not have known it this evening when you were tying that tie or zipping that ball gown, but just by being here, you are choosing to take an active role in your heart health. And, if you invited someone to be your guest this evening, a friend, a colleague, a client, they may embrace heart health changes that save their lives – just because of what they heard or read tonight. You made that happen. Of course, cutting edge research, advocacy for strong public health policies and lifesaving education initiatives can’t be done without funding. So, if your company’s corporate sponsorship came out of your budget, thank you for choosing to partner with the AHA toward realization of its mission. If you and your spouse decided to host a table, thank you for making the AHA part of your philanthropic legacy. If you have purchased raffle tickets or bid on auction items, thank you for making the AHA the beneficiary of your leisure pursuits! You may never meet the person who benefits from the advances in research, surgeries, education or advocacy that you funded, but then again, you may be sitting right next to him. There is one more way you can support the AHA and its mission – our mission. Open Your Heart. Open Your Heart is an opportunity to give a gift directly to the mission of the American Heart Association in honor or in memory of someone you love. Because it is a straight donation, any amount you give is 100% tax deductible. At the end of the live auction tonight, there will be an opportunity to Open Your Heart and give. Please raise your paddle and give generously to recognize the mother, brother, wife or friend in your life who has been touched by heart disease. And, if you are reading this catalog in the days following CÔtes du Coeur, Please know that it is not too late to make an Open Your Heart gift. We would greatly appreciate a belated donation! Thank you, again, for your generosity. I hope you have a wonderful evening on behalf of a great cause and a critical mission.
